SHANG-A-LANG - SAD MAGIC LP It's about time these jerks did a full-length. After several years of releasing nothing but singles and split 7"'s, SHANG-A-LANG has finally put down a full album of new material, and it was totally worth the wait. These guys are like a mike of HICKEY, THE BANANAS, and MARKED MEN, with a hint of THIS BIKE IS A PIPE BOMB. It's just a hint, 'cause they don't rock the folky jangly guitars too much aside from a song or two, but the influence is subtly there throughout the album. They are probably among the top ten pop-punk bands playing right now. Seriously. And of all their records, this is the one I would recommend to someone who's never heard them before. It's fast and upbeat, the kind of music that will always put you in a good mood while listening to it, even if the lyrics are generally dark and self-deprecating. This is fucking great!
