Influences
the grateful dead and all the members. all the bands and players in our band.
We came together on march 24th, 2007 at the German House Theater in Rochester NY for the 42nd anniversary of the Acid Test.
Scotty put the Family Dawgz players together because he couldn't get all of the individual bands he had wanted that evening; each was missing 1 or 2 guys and just couldn't play. So he picked out the players he wanted from 6 bands to play for one show not realizing how beautiful it would be - or did he?
While playing that night we all could see what was happening....it was clear as day. It was magic, the kind you can not create but just IS, the left over Love from the GD scene was there in our hearts and minds...we had crossed the musical line and were just getting started.
We were a solid band that night...you could see the energy being created by the music and the people dancing, grooving, skakin it; it seemed so natural it was hard to believe we had never played together.
When it was all over no one said "hey lets make this a band, lets do this again"! No one was being greedy, you know, looking for more. A few days past and it really started to sink in....that was really good, we need to do this again. So we started feeling around into the guys heads a bit and it seemed there was an interest in The Family Dawgz after all?
It's been a hell of a run so far, especially 2008 summer - we've played AND headlined some great fests, have been blessed to have interacted with actual legends on a very personal level, and now you know how it goes, it's upstate NY, time to bring the party INDOORS for a few months.
We update our gig schedule regularly, so check back, thanks to the hundreds of you we see at shows, and thanks again for an amazing summer, you guys are the Family...to us and each other.
Big Love your way from Pat, John, Bob, Eric, Scotty, Donnie, Chris - and to all the folks that have sat in with us this year we mentioned on the front page - THE FAMILY DAWGZ...to be continued as we now have opened for the legends such as: DONNA JEAN former female singer from the Grateful Dead,New Riders of the Purple Sage, Max Creek and have had many other grateful shows.
We now are rolling thunder swinging out almost every week-end like a fine tuned machine, these fine players have stepped up as friends, family member and musician as did the Grateful Dead themselves .
We have had ups and downs ,the highs are super high and the lows ,well lets just say when you put on big shoes, you better have big feet. We lost some players and we keep on truckin.....seems there is alot of folks who still remember or want to experience the music of the grateful dead........let the sounds of music fill the air!
