John Bishoff has many influences, which crept into the style and sound landscapes of the album, "Fear & Desire". Musical influences, generally in the order of influence are: Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, The Beatles, Nat "King" Cole, Paul Simon, Martin Denny, Jellyfish, Glenn Miller, Nicholas Gunn, Rick Neilsen (or is it the other way around?), Benny Goodman, Hoagy Carmicheal, Johnny Mercer, Les Baxter, Moody Blues, ELO, Chicago, Pink Floyd, Trashcan Sinatras, Peggy Lee, Julie London, The Tories, Percy Faith, Nelson Riddle, Tchaikowski, Debussy, Beethoven, Nokie Edwards, Les Paul, Roy Lanham, Freddy King, Chet Atkins and Duane Eddy.

Angels singing with an orchestra, a jazz band and a rock group
Fear and Desire is the name of a new album AND a new band (Fear & Desire), that features Holland Zander and Jinger Christal on vocals. The project was created and produced by Lifetime RAMI award winner, John Bishoff. John has been playing and writing music all his life and, five years ago, decided to dedicate all of his efforts to creating original music. All of the songs on the album were written, recorded, produced, and mixed by John with a great deal of input from both Holland and Jinger in the recording process.
John began recording with Holland Zander in 2000 and completed the self-titled album "Fear & Desire" in 2006. Jinger Christal was brought in to the project in 2005 to add harmonies and additional vocal textures to the album, but her singing was so strong and expressive that she was given the lead on 5 songs.
Holland Zander is the daughter of Robin Zander, vocalist for Cheap Trick. She fronted her own band, "The Snaggs" from 2000 to 2006, at which time they disbanded. During their reign, "The Snaggs" released an EP, "Heavier than a Ham Sandwich" and a full album, "Hot Tomato".
Jinger Christal originally was the lead vocalist for her own country band, making the switch to Pop Rock when she joined X51 in 2005.
The band, Fear & Desire, is comprised of some of the top musicians in the Rockford area, all of whom are accomplished jazz players (although they've all played rock and roll too, so when it comes to the rock songs on the album, their playing is hard and strong.
Blaine Young (keys, sax, EWI, programming) is the backbone of the band, having charted all of the songs and acting as stage director, and horn player. David Painter who played all of the piano parts on the album, plays keyboards and synth. Dave Timmke also recorded the jazz tunes on the album and plays both standup and electric bass. Joel DeLuna played on the title cut, "Fear & Desire" and plays drums and percussion in the band. John Bishoff plays nylon, accoustic, and electric guitar.
The album also features Nicholas Gunn on flute, Rachel Handlin on violin, Michael Beert on cello, Tony Vecchio on sax, Adam Plamann (Wandering Sons) on clarinet, Mark Nelson on trumpet, Cary Sheley on trombone, Tito Cevalles on percussion, and Becky Asher on French horn.

Happy Birthday, Holland! You know, it's gorgeous down here in FLA this time of year, and former Rockford citizens who were BIG fans of "The Snaggs" (you wouldn't remember, but we met a few times back when, friend and momentary member of "Something Strange"),currently living here (not just including your fam) would just LOVE for "Fear & Desire" to do a little Winter Tour. The party this week is at Cheer's located at 3207 N Main in Rockford. We had a great time last week at Take 20. The place was jumpin' all night long. Met many new friends and our dedicated fans were, as always, terrific. Once again, Pulse will performing an opening set, with guest drummer, Joel DeLuna. He really came through for us last week, and we even have a couple of new tunes to share with everyone.
