FEAR THY NAME were born in Porto, Portugal on November 1998 by the hand of two friends and actual band composers and guitar players Hugo Santos and Ivo Neves. The first riffs, fast and raw like the primordial times of Black Metal, gave place to more technical and melodic compositions and, after some months rehearsing with different bass players that difficultly could get along, the vocalist Ricardo Silva joined the band inspiring them to reach new horizons and contributing as well in the compositions with his enthusiasm for the genre.
The first phase line-up was complete as soon as the drummer Ricardo Teixeira and the bass player Rui Monteiro joined the band. The sonority and initial goals were guiding themselves into the right direction, however, Ricardo Texeira's group passage was not long due to the existence of musical divergences and adaptation difficulties that lead him to leave the band in a friendly way.
After several attempts to find a new drummer, the band received an e-mail from Daniel Silva, who answered with enthusiasm to the invitation. The line-up was at this point finally complete, by the summer of 2001, and this was the chance the band was hoping for to reach the stability needed to reach the main goals.
During March 2002, FEAR THY NAME entered studio to record their first Demo CD entitled "I – The Awakening". With the main goal to promote their music, the band recorded their first songs at I.M. Studios in Porto, Portugal, with Ivo Magalhães (Lullabye) taking care of the production, in a work that is characterized by a sonority that mixes styles like Thrash, Dark or Black Metal.
After many positive reviews from the national and international press, the band started its activity in what concerns to shows in national territory, having participated as well in diverse contests, helped by the talented keyboard player Ricardo Santos, Hugo's brother and only 15 years old, that progressively integrated the band's line-up. During 2004 there was a new change in the band with the substitution of the bass player Rui Monteiro by Álvaro Craveiro who already had collaborated in different occasions with the band as a guest guitar player.
During the months of October and November of 2004 FEAR THY NAME entered for the second time in the studio to record their second release entitled "Riding The Chariots Of War". With this work, characterized by a notorious evolution of the group and brilliantly produced by Rui Santos (Oratory) at EchoSystem Studios in Barcelos, Portugal, the band that many consider to be one of the promises of the Portuguese Metal, hopes to reach new steps and spread even more its name national and internationally during the year of 2005.
