THE NEED was formed in the early part of 2006 from the merger of the highly talented brothers Terry (drums) and Mike (guitar) and life-long friends, Danny (vocals) and Rick (guitar). Danny, an accomplished guitar player who was known on the Boise music scene from his stint with Amythyst in the 90's, left that job in the capable hands of Mike and Rick so he could focus on vocals.
Originally named "Feeding the Need", the name came from the band members enjoyment and need to play music, thus they were "feeding their need". Most musicians would probably say the same, that playing music is something they need to do. It was a name that hit home for all of the band members.
The original line-up included Danny's brother-in-law, Aleck, on bass. However, after a few select gigs were played over the summer and fall, Aleck unexpectedly left the band. Having met through Aleck earlier in the year, the band recruited veteran bassist, Steve, in time to meet scheduled gigs in December. Immediately, there was a gel and the new addition to the band fueled the fire to get out there and play. It was at this time, the idea of shortening the name to simply "THE NEED" was introduced. By the end of 2006 it was officially done, but the root meaning of the name is still the same.
THE NEED charged into 2007 and from virtually out of nowhere, made a splash that rippled through the Boise music scene. By the summer, THE NEED was playing some of the best high profile venues in the region, including the historic Bouquet (Boise), Humpin Hannah's (Boise) and Whiskey Jacques (Ketchum). Suddenly everyone seemed to know of this "hot new band in town". Strength was gained with every show played along the way and with that came a growing number of fans.
The original vision of being one of the area's most popular and demanded bands was coming into focus and furthermore, becoming a reality. By the summer of 2008, following several high profile shows, which included county fairs and opening for the legendary Skid Row, THE NEED had become more popular than ever. Thanks to an incredibly loyal fan base, THE NEED was not only nominated for ‘The Best of Boise’, but won the honor by an unprecedented landslide and in September, had the privilege of performing as ‘Boise’s favorite’ Cover Band of the Boise Weekly’s ‘Best of Boise’ party.

THE NEED continues to ride the momentum as one of the region's most exciting high energy rock and roll bands, but never rests. Unlike so many others who try to be all things to all people, THE NEED is who they are -a rock band. No country, No hip-hop, No classic rock. Just pure rock and roll from some of the most popular artists being played on the radio today.
