TALES FROM THE AUSTRALIAN UNDERGROUND - The Series
For the uninitiated, Tales From the Australian Underground charts the evolution of the Australian alternative sound starting with the big bang of 1976 and the debut recordings of both Radio Birdman and The Saints, right through until the digital and alternative-as-mainstream crossover of the early nineties. Using 7 records in the main to provide the storyline, Tales uncovers a bevy of vinyl treasure in the quest to tell the truth. 7 vinyl of course, being the preferred (and often only) medium of choice for these underground acts, as finance and an often limited lifespan precluded the recording of a full-length album.
Besides offering up an indie "best of", Tales from the Australian Underground gives the listener an insight into the sounds and musical styles that were developed over the highlighted periods and it's all documented in extensive 36-page booklets and 2CD collections. Essential for anyone serious about their music.
FEEL 001 TALES FROM THE AUSTRALIAN UNDERGROUND SINGLES 1976-1989
Tales from the Australian Underground - Singles 1976-1989 is a collection of some of the great 45s released during Australia's most prolific independent era of 1976 to 1989.
Tales highlights selections from the previous careers of acts like Hoodoo Gurus (The Victims & Fun Things), Gangajang (The Riptides), The Cruel Sea (Sekret Sekret), Dave Graney (The Moodists), Big Heavy Stuff (Ups & Downs), You Am I (The Bamboos), Tex Perkins, (Thug), Dirty Three (Venom P. Stinger) as well as classic early releases from Radio Birdman, The Saints, The Scientists, Triffids, Died Pretty, The Mark Of Cain and the Hard-Ons.
In addition, Tales from the Australian Underground includes a selection of seminal tracks, previously unreleased on CD. Featured among others are Pel Mel, Sunnyboys, Sardine, Psycho Surgeons, The Leftovers, Do Re Mi, The Numbers, Tactics, X and Wet Taxis.

FEEL 002 SUNNYBOYS THIS IS REAL SINGLES/LIVE/RARE
THIS IS REAL, a 2CD set, features all the hit singles Sunnyboys fans know and love: Happy Man, Alone With You, You Need a Friend, This is Real, Show Me Some Discipline, Love in a Box and Comes as No Surprise as well as all the b-sides (many of these taken from the 1st album recording sessions), the original four track EP, rare and unreleased versions and an entire disc of live radio broadcasts taken from the bands peak period of 1981-1982. Twenty-nine of the forty-two tracks previously unavailable on CD and all remastered for the first time.
Also included is a 36 page full-colour booklet featuring rare photos, poster and handbill art. Additionally, an authorised 10,000 word biography comprehensively details the bands rapid rise - from their first show on August 15,1980 and their signing to Mushroom Records in February 1981 until their unfortunate demise just three years later, as success and demands for more hits led to an untimely end in December 1984.

FEEL003/004 THE MARK OF CAIN - BATTLESICK & THE UNCLAIMED PRIZE
Released in 1989, Battlesick the 1st album for Australian three piece The Mark Of Cain, sounded like nothing else in Australia at the time or since. Featuring the enigmatic Scott brothers - John on vocals and guitar and Kim, on bass, and with their drummer of the time, John Rickert - The Mark Of Cain produced an album that eerily mirrored the bleakness and desperation as found on the records of their favourite act Joy Division as well as recalling the swing of another favourite UK post-punk favourite, Magazine. Out of step with most everything that was musically happening at that time, and predating the Joy Division revival by a full 15 years, Battlesick found little Australian audience outside their hometown of Adelaide. Battlesick would however find an audience in Europe where it was released via German label Normal and would find further audience in America when Henry Rollins - having witnessed the band live on his 1992 tour of Australia - released it there via his label 2.13.61. And although it received little recognition at the time, Battlesick has since survived to become an Australian cult classic with the title track in particular remaining a live favourite having been played at almost every show since it was first introduced to the set.
Recorded exactly one year later, The Unclaimed Prize the second album by The Mark Of Cain - is a masterpiece of power, groove and intensity. Heavily influenced by the work of pre-grunge outfit Big Black, it shows a band making great leaps forward not only in artistic expression but in production standards also. Recorded in Adelaide with engineer Stuart Sheldon, The Unclaimed Prize is another self-produced effort. This time however, the bare bones approach of the first album is replaced by layers of guitar overdubs - courtesy of John Scott atop a pummelling new rhythm section comprising Johns brother Kim and new drummer Campbell Robinson. And in Robinsons powerful swing, the beginning of the massive groove The Mark Of Cain is renown for begins here.
Feature tracks on The Unclaimed Prize include the ferocious Fire in Her Heart and the unrelenting UCD. Extra tracks include Cripple and Shadows, both produced by Big Black main man and later, Nirvana, Page & Plant and Dirty Three producer Steve Albini. Also featured is the original recording of live favourite Tell Me, later re-recorded for the bands classic third album Ill At Ease.

Covering the years 1977-1990, volume two does not pick up where volume one (1976-1989) left off but rather, watches the progress of a select few acts - Radio Birdman, The Saints, Riptides, Tactics, Laughing Clowns, Triffids, Died Pretty et al - within the allotted time frame, as well as introducing a group of even more groundbreaking acts for whom without, the story would not be complete. Teenage Radio Stars, Thought Criminals, SPK, The Singles, Machinations, Salamander Jim, Happy Hate Me Nots, Primitive Calculators, and The Stems are just some of the 45 acts on volume 2.

FEEL 006 HAPPY HATE ME NOTS - The Good That's Been Done
The Good Thats Been Done - the first ever anthology for Sydney group the Happy Hate Me Nots. This 2CD set covers the bands entire career and includes all the A-sides, a selection of b-sides, live favourite and tour-de-force Blue Afternoon, their cover of Bob Marleys Lively Up Yourself, previously unreleased demo recordings and live tracks. All packaged with a 12 page full colour booklet, The Good Thats Been Done is the definitive Happy Hate Me Nots release. The best news of all, though, is that the Happy Hate Me Nots have announced they have reformed with newly recruited member Matt Galvin (ex The Barbarellas /Eva Trout/The Scruffs) on guitar, launched their anthology and are set to do an East Coast tour in September as support to original UK pop-punk giants, the Buzzcocks.

In May 2005, HENRY ROLLINS performed his 8th Spoken Word tour of Australia. The first three dates were at the York Theatre in Sydney's Seymour Centre. All three shows were filmed and some post-show interviews were filmed as well resulting in Live in the Conversation Pit the first ever HENRY ROLLINS Spoken Word DVD filmed entirely in Australia.
Highlights from this compelling 150 minute DVD include The Time I Was Funny, The King of Rock n Roll and the hilarious and daunting story of HENRY's solo travels across the great Russian winter wonderland, Siberia. If it's lectures and pieces of prose you are after then you are at the wrong place. Often misconstrued by the ignorant as a serious bode delivering lectures in an Army Major-like fashion, HENRY ROLLINS is a very funny and very smart man delivering critically observant takes on the life around him.
Sometimes political, sometimes sociological but always utterly entertaining. No lectures here.
