'Foolish' Felix Dickinson, D.J./Producer and the man behind the record labels ..'Cynic'.., 'Bastedos' and partner in ..'Urban Myth'.., and 'Ugly'. .. Felix Dickinson has been D.J.ing for nearly 20 years and producing music for over 13, yet because of his many monikers people often believe ‘they’re not totally familiar’ with his sound. Yet upon closer inspection, most discerning DJ’s, realize they have at least one of his tracks in their box. Harvey, Maurice Fulton, the Idjut Boys and Daniele Baldelli . .. At the tender age of 20 Felix organized his first major party collaborating with the D.I.Y. sound system from Nottingham. The Police roadblocks and helicopters couldn’t stop the party, as it was pre-Criminal Justice Act, and 4,000 people danced all weekend. .. This love for a good party with good music led to the monthly Slack nights in Brighton which he put on with a group of close friends in the early 90s. Despite being held on a Monday night and only going till 2am these parties regularly attracted large crowds from as far afield as London and Nottingham and would usually involve an after-party down on the beach or some local warehouse. .. When Slack finally split it allowed Felix to change direction and set up the Ugly Music record label with friend and local record shop owner Tony Lee. The label released music from K.Alexi, Underground Evolution, D.J. Harvey and Jaime Read, among others. It was at this time that Felix began his next and most long-lasting D.J. residency at the Joint nightclub with Jaime Read (L.H.A.S) Kevin Sparrow (Ugly) and Bobby Coulman (Soft Rocks) where he played every month from ’95 to 2000. .. Since Felix moved from the South Coast to London in 2000, he has run the labels Cynic and Urban Myth, and has produced a steady stream of records for other labels, collaborating with many top producers and musicians such as D.J. Harvey, Pete Z, Ray Mang, and Toby Tobias to name a few. While his D.Jing, has taken him all round the world including his residency for Life-force in Japan and regular trips to Nevada desert for the Burning Man Festival.
