| About felixcat |
Hi i'm Felix.
I currently play acoustic and electric percussion, combined sometimes with computer based composition.
I play an ambidextrous drum kit setup, and love pushing the boundaries of my playing. Odd time phrases and polyrhythms are a new passion of mine.
I play double kick. I enjoy triplet time. Currently i'm practicing a lot with triplets, using 3/4 or 5/4 measures.
When i play my intention is to get over my personal stuff, and to relax into a space of expression and flow. This can be tricky as a drummer! I've developed my own system of practice to hone what i think enhances my playing.
I develop my perception of time an rhythm a lot, using a set of exercises i've developed. I also practice total independence and ambi-limb-osity (that's playing and leading with any limb at any time). Its a real jumble sometimes.
My approach to drumming is quite different from that which i see many other drummers taking, which has been problematic for me. Its tough doing your own thing. Still i kind of love it.
Since moving to Brighton I've got to know Channel 83, whom i've been playing drum kit with recently. They are so damn groovy, it drives me nuts. In the future i forsee some really phat gigs with these guys.
In Brighton I've also had the pleasure to meet Christian, aka Wail, who i've been working with, playing some creative drum parts to his songs. I get to bring out some heavy Tool-esque breaks and i love it.
Currently I'm involved with David Mountain, a producer in Huddersfield, with whom I do some session work. He's one to watch.
While still in london I co-founded Masonic Records, a collective of producers making progressive DnB. This project saw some gigs and CDs, but it waned and faded as the core members spread their wings for other things.
I used to play a lot with Ordo ab chao, until i moved to brighton. Other past projects include a local samba band an ad-hoc jazz band.
All the music on here is really old. I made it all on Reason when i was a teenager. Since then i've been playing live instruments much more (they are more fun). The pieces reflect my drum and bass influences well.
that's it form me.... peace
