stencil art; screen printing; direct action; clowning; music; sandwitch making; rabble rousing; being daft; being serious; making connections;having fun;plotting and planning; scoffing at capitalism; making alliances; zines and newsletters
Music
sadly the feministas do not agree with each other about the music we listen to and the music we play... but currently we are learning and playing guitars, ukelele; agogo, samba bells, drums and the trumpet blah blah blah - we all love making it and listening to it but we have ecclectic tastes - thats diversity for ye - some of us are actively resisting and corrupting our cultural stereo types and are currently avoiding Irish fiddley dee at all costs . Theres a number of things we musically avoid independantly - thank godless for autonomy.
Movies
We'd get round to making them if we could afford a decent camera
Television
Lewis because Hathaway is tortured about his homosexuality,Ugly Betty because feminists love Fashion, Emmerdale because we like sheep, Ireland playing football because it's acceptable nationalism; Dispatches because we like to stay up late; SmART cause we love Kirsten O'Brien; Dexter because we're quite contrary
About me: The Feministas are women's feminist 'block' on demos and actions. We were started by the Andrea's collective to make feminists visible in the other campaigns and social justice stuff we were doing.
We wear white boilersuits with FEMINISTA stencil patches just so people get the message. This means we look really obvious and also get other feminists coming up to us and starting conversations [often in languages we don't speak... but hey that's international connections for you].
The boilersuits are a nod to the Tute Bianche movement and others - but to be honest it's just because they are cheap and easy to print on!
the Feministas is a way of doing actions - we want it to be as easy, cheap, silly and practical as possible for other women to copy. Get yourself a boilersuit and get crafty! and if you're too cool for a boilersuit? or you don't want to look like an anarchist or a big old dyke? Well... if you can't be an eijit then you can't be part of our revolution.
the Feministas - stating the Bleeding Obvious again... the revolution will not be stewarded...
Feminism is...?
Who I'd like to meet: The ghosts of Andrea Dworkin, Audre Lourde, and Emma Goldman, Octavia Butler and Monica Sjoo... Angela Davis, bell hooks, Patti Smith, any Greenham woman, Feisty DIY feminists, womanists, Zami, Khoosh and queer comrades, Marge Piercy and all the folk from Woman on the Edge of time, Mairéad Ni Fearghail, Anne Bonny and Mary Read, Gráinne Ni Mháille, Alice b Toklas, Luisha Teish, Courtney Love, Amy Winehouse, the women from Crass, Hannah Blilie and Beth Ditto, radical midwives, Female Zapatistas, french salon hostesses' working class girlfriends, Women in Black, Maria Miles, Avtar Brah, princess Lea, Galadrielle and Arwen, the Boudicca, Judy Grahn, the adverts, the poison girls, Sojournor Truth, Phoolan Devi, Karen Armstrong, Alice and Rebecca Walker, Ursula k leGuin, Monica Ali, Voltairine de Cleyre... YOU?
So glad I found you!!! Going to be attending a radical feminist activist/destruction day late in September here on the East Coast in the "land of the free!"

After a little hiatus over the past 6 months while lots of other exciting things went on, Reassess Your Weapons zine is now looking to make a return with its 7th issue.
Reassess Your Weapons is the collective zine of the Manifesta collective, and its friends.
(see www.myspace.com/manifestaleeds or check out the new website which should be online soon at: www.manifesta.co.uk)
We're currently looking for contributions and submissions on any topics. Got something burning that you want to put onto paper? Feel free to contribute your thoughts, writings, musings, illustrations and creativities.
As well as general submissions, we also hope to dedicate a portion of the zine to a collaborative discussion on: 'Reflections and (Re)evaluations of Collectivity, Community, and Communication.'
Or just 'collectivity, community and communication' if you want a snappier title!
Make of this 'theme' what you will, and interpret it however you wish.
Hopefully it's broad enough to capture many diverging thoughts, and contributions.
As ever, send whatever you wish for inclusion (along this theme, or otherwise), and I look forward to patching a new issue of the zine together over the next few months.
Mail contributions to: reassessyrweapons@manifesta.co.uk
