The first song in the MySpace player is from a new signing to Fence Records, FRÁNÇOIS & THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS. The track is called 'Be Water', and it is taken from his forthcoming album Plaine Inondable which is being released on Fence on December 7th 2009. Fránçois is an multi-talented songwriter, musician, animator and artist, hailing from Saintes, a small town on the west coast of France. For the past couple of years he's been an active member of the Bristol music scene, performing with Movietone (Domino Records), Crescent (Fat Cat Records) and Rozi Plain (Fence Records), as well as being a touring member of Camera Obscura (4AD). An accomplished singer-songwriter in his own right, Fránçois has recorded 3 albums, and a barrage of EP's, released through various labels (including Stitch Stitch, Too Pure, Talitres). Plaine Inondable is his debut for Fence Records - and it is a stunning album. Across ten tracks, piano chords swell, electric guitars gently shimmer, and Fránçoisʼ soft croon floats throughout - his bilingual songs melding the bitter-sweet yearning of Leonard Cohen with the melodic playfulness of Serge Gainsbourg and Françoise Hardy.

The band is the brainchild of Jim Abel, a songwriter from Edinburgh - who has been a part of the Fence Collective for a wee while now. Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
