Bio:

Hi. My name is Alex Fenton and I run Fentek Audio. Based in Edinburgh, I offer recording, sound engineering and music production services. I am currently setting up my own recording studio, Swanfield Studios. You can check on it's progress by following the Swanfield Studios Construction Diary.

Sound Engineering

I am currently the resident engineer at the legendary Wee Red Bar at Edinburgh College of Art and also freelance for several other bands and venues. If you’d like to book me to sound engineer your event, please contact me directly.

Recording Services

I use a top quality mobile recording rig capable of recording up to 24 separate channels of audio. I use high quality Focusrite mic pre-amps to capture the best audio possible and everything is recorded onto a high spec Apple laptop for mixing later in my custom home studio. Because my setup is mobile, I can cater for a variety of different recording solutions.

Single/EP/Album - For this kind of recording, location is key. The most important thing is that you are comfortable, so whether it's a remote cottage or your front room, I can capture you at your best. I like to record in the Wee Red Bar. It has loads of space, is easily customisable and creates a great atmosphere for recording. Recent recording projects include The Kays Lavelle album (Be Still This Gentle Morning), another EP for Shooting Stansfield and I'm also part way through an album for The Stormy Seas.

Gig Recording - I can record live performances in any venue using a combination of direct signals, spot miking and ambient microphones to create accurate recordings, capturing the experience, not just the sound.

Demo Recording - If you want to get a lot of songs recorded in a short space of time, then an evening of recording in the Wee Red Bar is ideal. A perfect low cost option for laying down demos of your new tunes.

Production & Mastering

I am an experienced and creative producer and have worked with many different styles of music. If you are unhappy with the mixes you have, you can pass the files to me for a different set of ears. Whether it's for a single track, EP, remix or album, I can make a difference to your mixes and give them the boost they need. Recent production work I have been doing includes mixing and mastering of X Lion Tamer's new single (Hope), and mastering projects for Steve Heron and SiMBA.
