Movies
Most all science fiction films of the 1950s with scientist types front and center irrespective of their particular agendas.
Westerns of every stripe. Old and new; silent and noisy; classic and revisionist; good and bad... Even Johnny Guitar!
Classic Noir with lots of cheap, desperate people smoking and trying hard to pull a fast one.
Hardboiled transitionals in the style of John Boorman's 1967 toughguy opus, Point Blank.

LISTEN SONNY, IN MY DAY WE DIDN'T HAVE DEVON AOKI-IN-A-BOX. WE HAD ANT FARMS! AND WE LIKED IT!
I remember the '60s more clearly than I probably should. And feel that (dearth of personal jet-packs notwithstanding) yesteryear's future is immeasurably more interesting than either Astounding Stories or Mr. Truman Bradley led us to believe.
Nevertheless, I am a grudging technorealist at best. While having come to fully appreciate the universal availability of today's always-up, knowledge-on-demand cybersorcery, I harbor an affinity for gadgetry burnished, sparking, clockwork-laden and completely absent of microanything. Also antique gasmasks where available.
DOCTOR MABUSE, KING OF CRIME AND SNAPPY DRESSER
Vintage pulp lit and action film serials have long held my interest to a near prurient degree. Contemporary works of fictioneering inspired by the likes of Street & Smith's stable of print stars and Republic Pictures' great cliffhangers are likewise regarded with all due respect and enthusiasm.
WHEN THE NAME'S DOCTOR SATAN, THE WORD "MYSTERIOUS" IS NEVER FAR REMOVED.
Who watches The Watchmen? I for one. And likely a host of long-time devotees of the gritty, revisionist crimefighting assemblage of the late 1980's known by that name. Moreover, this film may well attract new eyes and curious minds. Indeed it may yet prove to be the catalyst which directs a new generation toward the original damaged heroes, the savage and shadowy founders of Pulp Justice.

Who I'd like to meet:
Among the currently living, ergo potentially accessible.... Les Stroud, Bob Dylan, Jasper Johns, Ann-Margret, Hank Aaron, Shakira, Dennis Miller, Patricia Cornwell, John Glenn, Dr. G: Medical Examiner, Chris Carter, Simon Wincer, Angie Dickinson, Brigadier General Chuck Yeager, Kristanna Loken and Bigfoot. Neither in that particular order necessarily nor at a common gathering. But then again...
Here, it would be anyone who doesn't fly with the other crows.

I hope this greeting finds you well and in high spirits. Apologies for my lengthy absence. I've been fairly busy all through the summer and into fall with work at the lab, family and our latest addition, a dog joining the house of Cody...she's a 3 yr. old, amazing border collie, aptly named, Sheena. On the science front, I'll assume, the knowledgeable man you are, you've spotted the latest contribution to the advancement of the rocket pack. As always, take care Doc.
