Very seldom are we graced by musical inspiration that touches our hearts by digging deep to unearth our protected glimpse of hope. Growing up Eritrean by way of Egypt, Italy and Germany, singer-songwriter FETSUM explores his inner most thoughts and feelings bestowing on us lyrics that pour delicately from his soul. ‘Urban Folk Music’ is what he coins it, but truth be told, his musical talents stretch far beyond any genre of music. Touching on Soul, Rhythm & Blues, Jazz, Reggae and the lot, his ode to music is dynamic and rich with colorful expression. FETSUM’s inspirations range from music legends like Nina Simone and Oum Kalsoum to global peace activists to everyday single mothers raising children on their own. Strength, determination and hope exemplified by all people is the energy that fuels FETSUM.
Embarking on his music talents as a teenager but professionally pursuing a music career only a few years ago, FETSUM reached new heights otherwise unprecedented in such a short frame of time. Pulsing at the time in the German music scene, Max Herre from legendary hip hop group Freundeskreis decided to start his solo project. This opened a new door of opportunity for FETSUM in 2004 when he song-wrote the single 'Sei Tu' for Max Herre, quickly climbing to 1 on the German Album Charts.
Adding a new twist to his music palette in September 2008, FETSUM was selected to open for critically acclaimed Universal Music reggae-soul recording artist Patrice on his multi-national 'Free-Patriation' album tour. Touring as Patrice's hand-picked show opener through Germany, France, Switzerland and Luxembourg, FETSUM quickly found his place sharing the stage with class-act musicians with attendance of hundreds to thousands of fans per show. Musically, but also visually the tour proved to be a stunning showcase of artistry featuring reknown French photographer/artist JR who designed the stage backdrop.
Making his way, FETSUM then went on to open up for Grammy Award-winning soulstress Estelle in Berlin as part of the Germany leg of her European tour in November 2008. Soon thereafter, FETSUM was nominated and chosen as the Official MySpace Winner at the Radio Energy Music Tour 2008 in Stuttgart, Germany performing with Patrice and others such as Reamonn and Thomas D.
Honored by having worked with such incredible music talents leading up to this point, FETSUM has remained truly inspired and even more passionate and determined as he takes his music to a higher level. In January 2009 FETSUM signed with self-founded independent record label High Fire Music based in Berlin with US offices in New York. Soon later FETSUM was chosen to open 18 concerts for German Chartbreaker Cassandra Steen. Moreover FETSUM was selected opener for US hip hop artist K’NAAN in April in Berlin and for ECHO-Award winning Peter Fox at the famous STIMMEN-Festival in Lörrach, where renowned artists like Tracy Chapman and Bobby McFerrin performed this year.
Presently he is moving full-speed ahead recording several new songs for his newest and highly-anticipated project yet; 'Colors of Hope', a unique music anthology comprised of 12 singles. FETSUM describes 'Colors of Hope' as a celebration of colors represented in the 12-color spectrum with one message in mind; H-O-P-E. While recording in Patrice's Colognebased Supow Studio, FETSUM reminds us that his 12-track collection speaks to embracing life's obstacles through empowering ourselves through hope. The first single with video shot in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil entitled 'Meet You In Paradise' was released in April 2009. The singles ‘Emotional Android’, ‘AIR’ and ‘GO’ followed. The Album ‘Colors of Hope’ will be released next year.

Inspiriert von Musiklegenden wie Nina Simone und Oum Kalsoum, sind es aber vor allem menschliche Schicksale, die ihn antreiben. „Unsere Höhen und Tiefen, Trauer, Zweifel, Freude und der Glaube an die Hoffnung“ sind die Quellen seiner Musik.
Zwar entdeckte er bereits als Teenager sein Musiktalent, doch begann er seine professionelle Karriere erst vor einigen Jahren. Nun erklimmt er in einer beispiellos kurzen Zeit einen Gipfel nach dem anderen. Als Max Herre - seinerzeit Mitglied der legendären Formation Freundeskreis - sich entschied eine Solokarriere zu starten, öffneten sich 2004 auch für FETSUM neue Türen. Denn mit dem von ihm geschriebenen Song ‚Sei Tu’ trug er mit dazu bei, dass Max Herres Album auf Anhieb auf Platz eins der Deutschen Album Charts einstieg.
Eine weitere bedeutende Wendung nahm FETSUMs Karriere im September 2008, als man ihn als Opening Act für die ‚Free-Patriation’ Album-Tour des Reggae-& Soul-Musikers Patrice buchte. Kurz darauf sprang das Berliner Design-Kollektiv ‚ArtSchoolVets’ voller Begeisterung für FETSUMs Musik und für seine Fähigkeit Menschen auf musikalischer, emotionaler und intellektueller Ebene zu berühren, auf den Zug auf. Angezogen von FETSUMs authentischer Ausstrahlung und seinen elektrisierenden Live-Auftritten, boten sie dem aufstrebenden Künstler an, ihn dabei zu unterstützen, notwendiges Geld für die Teilnahme an der Patrice-Tour zu sammeln. Im Schnellverfahren entwarf ‚ArtSchoolVets’ ein FETSUM-Supporter-Shirt und starteten die zurecht als ‚Powered By The People’ benannte T-Shirt-Kampagne. Denn die Nachfrage der Fans war überwältigend. Innerhalb von nur zwei Wochen waren mehr als 300 Shirts verkauft und FETSUMs Teilnahme an der Tour mithilfe seiner Fans gesichert.
Als von Patrice auserwählter Opening Act tourte FETSUM nun durch Deutschland, Frankreich, die Schweiz und Luxemburg. Dabei fand er auf der Bühne zwischen Musikern von Weltrang und vor mehreren Tausend Zuschauern schnell seinen angestammten Platz. Sowohl musikalisch als auch visuell erwies sich die gesamte Tour als voller Erfolg, zu dem auch der gefeierte französische Fotograf und Künstler ‚JR’ mit seinem eigens hierfür entworfenen Bühnenbild beitrug. Bereits im November folgte ein weiterer Auftritt als Opening Act. Diesmal für die mit einem Grammy-Award ausgezeichnete Soulsängerin Estelle, welche im Rahmen Ihrer Europa-Tour in Berlin auftrat. Wenig später wurde FETSUM für den MySpyace-Video-Preis nominiert und trat dann im Dezember als Gewinner des Wettbewerbs auf der Radio Energy Music Tour 2008 in Stuttgart neben Patrice, Thomas D. und Reamonn auf.
Inspiriert von der Zusammenarbeit mit all diesen namhaften und talentierten Musikern, arbeitet FETSUM nun noch entschlossener und leidenschaftlicher denn je daran, mit seiner Musik in neue Sphären vorzudringen. Im Januar 2009 gründete FETSUM sein eigenes Independent-Label High Fire Music mit Sitz in Berlin und einem US-Büro in New York.
Auf Hochtouren ist er nun dabei, mehrere Songs für sein neuestes und lang erwartetes Projekt aufzunehmen. Das Projekt ‚Colors of Hope’ ist eine einzigartige, aus zwölf Songs bestehende Anthologie. Ab April 2009 wird über den Zeitraum von einem Jahr jeden Monat jeweils eine neue Single veröffentlicht. In seiner Anthologie ‚Colors of Hope’ zelebriert FETSUM ein Thema: die HOFFNUNG und zwar in all ihrer Farbenpracht.
Dabei lehnt er sich an das zwölf-Farben-Spektrum an und verdeutlicht so die zahlreichen Facetten, die Hoffnung in unserem Leben haben kann. Aufgenommen in Patrices Kölner Supow Studio, bestärkt uns FETSUM mit seiner zwölfteiligen Anthologie darin, das Leben mit seinen Problemen und Hindernissen anzunehmen, sie aber mit Hoffnung anzugehen und zu erkennen, welche immense Kraft wir aus ihr schöpfen können. Der Titel ‚Colors of Hope’ besteht aus zwölf Buchstaben, jeder Buchstabe repräsentiert eine Farbe, jede Farbe ist einem Monat zugeordnet und jeden Monat erscheint eine Single und nach 12 Monaten ist das Spektrum vollständig, die Anthologie komplett. Die erste Single ‚Meet You In Paradise’, zu der das Video in Rio de Janeiro gedreht wurde, wird am 01.Mai.2009 releast. Folgen werden elf weitere Songs.
Indem er Menschen mit seinen Texten, seiner Energie und vor allem mit seiner Botschaft berührt, will FETSUM das ureigene menschliche Element der Hoffnung in jedem von uns wecken. Farbe für Farbe, Schritt für Schritt.

Und gleichzeitig auch vielen lieben Dank für den Song "Meet you in paradise", in dem ich mich wirklich wiederfinden, mich in ihn fallen lassen und einfach nur geniessen kann. Ich hoffe, dass ich dich im September in Nbg im Hirsch mal live sehen kann. Wir haben bis jetzt nicht wirklich viele Songs auf MySpace, aber vielleicht hat dir ja zumindest der eine, einigermaßen gefallen. Wir arbeiten derzeit an unserem ersten Album "Sanaa de Esperanza" (Kunst der Hoffnung) und fahren wohl da ein bisschen auf der gleichen Schiene wie du (Colours of hope)...Hoffnung ist wohl das, was manchmal am meisten fehlt, vor allem lebendige Hoffnung, die sich in Aktion und Liebe zu sich selbst und dem Nächsten verwandelt.
