Heroes
My personal hero is Katherine Norland. An actress of such caliber who, all the while unpaid, stayed with the film through thick and thin. She put up with so very much. She was peed on, nipped at, and ran along the 110 freeway to get a shot (you can see that footage on the teaser trailer on our YouTube page!
I wrote, produced and directed FREE to a Good Home. I am originally from Ohio. Lived in Brooklyn Heights, NY for a while and then Jackson Hole and Laramie, Wyoming, where I received my Bachelors Degree before coming to Los Angeles to attend USC for my Masters in Screenwriting.
But I also college-hopped. I took film production at NYU and an editing class from UCLA but also attended few other colleges inbetween BEFORE getting my Bachelors. Finally I received a Masters in Screenwriting (with a double major in Short Fiction) from University of Southern California(USC). FREE to a Good Home is my first feature film and my directorial debut.
I rescued my first stray dog PUFF MONSTER (read more about it in Animal Wellness Magazine Article) and from that point on I learned the pitfalls of the LA Animal Rescue and Shelter system.
I was inspired by filmmakers; Henry Jaglom, Francis Ford Coppola, and author Paul Zindel. Henry Jaglom because of his beautiful indie style. And if you watch Coppola's documentary about making of Apocalypse Now, called Hearts of Darkness, his last couple sentences I felt he was speaking to me. And Paul Zindel. What can I say Paul Zindel. He was my very favorite Professor at USC. I learned so very very much from him and I was completely distroyed when he passed away.
Paul was the one who called my animal rescue movie, The Pet Witch Project, because he knew I would be running around Los Angeles, with my actress in tow chasing stray dogs and filming the interaction.
FREE to a Good Home is a grass roots project that parallels the animal rescue community. Shot entirely on a digital medium, I have hit up everybody I knew and didn’t know (AND STILL AM) to get the film made and I am STILL working very hard on completing the film.

Bless your heart for taking the time to care for homeless animals! I wish you all the best in getting your film made....can't wait for the opportunity to see it. We need more people like you to help educate the general public to this country's animal blight. In the words of Ghandi, "THE GREATNESS OF A NATION CAN BE JUDGED BY THE WAY IT'S ANIMALS ARE TREATED". We've got a long way to go, I fear.
In Nature's World Nature's wonders do abound The billions of ants that crawl around the ground The trillions of flying things beetles, flies and bees That buzz around the blossom laden trees.
In Nature's World the birds sing every day And migratory waders from the Northlands far away On the southern beaches searching for insects ten thousand miles or more From their birthplace on the cold Artic shore.
In Nature's World a bird i often hear and see In the Town park the black and white pee wee With little variation in his song Pee wee pee wee he calls out all day long.
Of Nature's World so much to learn and know Of how the plants and flowers and grasses grow And though many of Nature's wonders to recall Her best kept secrets she hides from us all. ~Francis Duggan
wishing you a wonderful week, filled with remarkable things! peace & light, Fran
