According to the following venerated Music Reviewers, Fi's Debut Album Bijoux sounds like:
"'Bijoux' is French for gems or cute things, which sums up the solo debut from Brisbane's Fi Claus. It's sweet, summery and playful. "If you want me/ come and find me/ I'm not standing still," Claus states in the opening cut, Get It. Packing 11 songs into just 25 minutes, this is a thrilling pop adventure. The album's executive producer, Pete Murray, also produced the standout cut, Please Please, and sings some backing vocals in Age Old Song. But Claus is the star of the show, and she's a major talent. Bijoux is a delightful debut." 4 Stars (4/5) - Jeff Jenkins (Inpress, 3RRRfm, Radio National, JB Hi-Fi Magazine) - JB Hi-Fi Magazine, March 2009
"This sunny folk-pop delight from Brisbane singer-songwriter Claus has hooks that did deep and clever twists in arrangements that set it above the pack. Friday Song and Please Please have hints of trad folk in the melodies and feature sublime layers of vocals. Come Home sports a string arrangement written and played by Claus, and Pete Murray drops by to supply the harmony on Age Old Song. A real grower." 4 Stars (4/5) - Noel Mengel (Chief Music Writer, The Courier Mail) - The Courier Mail, 7th May 2009

Fi Claus Bio:
With a 2009 debut album (Bijoux; in stores through MGM & on iTunes) Miss Ward from Brisbane’s SCENE MAGAZINE calls “decidedly catchy, lighthearted and summery”, Jeff Jenkins (JB HI-FI MAG) calls “sweet, summery and playful… a thrilling pop adventure”, Noel Mengel (THE COURIER MAIL) calls a “sunny folk-pop delight”, and about which Bill Holdsworth (RAVE MAGAZINE) says “what shines through here is the warmth of these songs” , Fi Claus recently realized Sunday afternoons are the best time for playing her album tunes, and non-album track ‘Friday Song – Radio Mix’ is the obvious choice for a winter Single – hence her July to October 2009 ‘Friday Song – Radio Mix’ Sunday Arvie Single Launch Tour.
Written in a cold dark sharehouse room in Carlton (VIC) midwinter about one of those rare times Fi was home alone Friday night and what that can lead to; as opposed to the ‘Bijoux’ album version of ‘Friday Song’, ‘Friday Song – Radio Mix’ features a bridge section that really peaks intensity of the mixed, pent-up emotions the song portrays so well, via additional overdriven rickenbacker electric guitar (played by Fi) and much more up-front drums and cymbals stunningly pounded by Andy Sylvio. It also shows off Fi’s “sublime layers of vocals” (Noel Mengel, THE COURIER MAIL) and James O’Brien’s (The Boat People) tasteful bass work.
Fi’s debut single Come Home (which saw her film clip on RAGE and rave reviews around Australia August 2007, including SINGLE OF THE WEEK in BEAT and RAVE magazines, top spot in INPRESS’s HOWZAT! playlist, mX paper calling Fi “a phenomenal Brisbane talent”, and www.mercedes-benz.tv/mixedtape presenting Fi as one of their “Best of 2008” acts) was almost a link between her former acoustic duo Gorgeous (featuring national and community radio favourites like Whenever It Rains) and her new self-titled outfit. Her “sweet-sounding and quirky vocals” (Tessie Vanderwert, THE AGE) are widely noted in reviews of her follow-up singles ‘I’ll Be Spending’ and ‘Get It’, 100% of which were glowing…as have been 100% of the extensive range of Bijoux Album reviews (eg. 4 Stars from Noel Mengel in THE COURIER MAIL, and 4 Stars from Jeff Jenkins in JB HI-FI MAG) – a very rare and pretty Australian press strike-rate!
Fi Claus not only has a “sugar spun voice” (Simone Ubaldi, BEAT) - she also wrote and produced all tracks (except the song Please Please, produced by Pete Murray), playing telecaster electric and nylon acoustic guitars, glockenspiel, cellos, violins, harmonium organ and train whistle, as well as writing parts for trumpet (played by Liam Griffin) and vocal harmonies (including one sung by Pete Murray). Then there are her intelligently simple lyrics, distinctively melody driven guitar, and that combination of no song sounding alike, but all clearly redolent of the album…
Bijoux was recorded by hot young thing Matt Redlich (Massive Studios, Brisbane), who learnt his beautiful know-how from Brisbane’s sonic guru Joe Malone (JLM Audio; makes specialized equipment for major rock acts in Australia like John Butler, Wolfmother etc, as well as consoles, pre-amps, compressors and speakers for studios and galleries around the world). Bijoux was mixed by the very amazing Anthony Lycenko (Rockinghorse Studios, Byron Bay; ‘Friday Song – Radio Mix’ was also mixed by Anthony Lycenko at Studio 301, Byron Bay) and mastered by Studio 301 legend Steve Smart in Sydney. Pete Murray kindly sat in on mixing and mastering as well, so the album’s sound has an incredible array of Aus industry input.
As Justin Grey (TIMEOFF) puts it: “Bijoux is a great introduction to an exceptional new talent on the Australian scene”, is “definitely one of 2008’s best pop releases” according to Jeff Jenkins (INPRESS, 3RRRfm, JB Hi-Fi Mag), and “has hooks that dig deep and clever twists in arrangements that set it above the pack” (Noel Mengel, THE COURIER MAIL), so make sure you get to a Fi Claus show and hear “her luxurious voice, smart pop writing, and ability to play just about anything she wants” (Simon Topper, RAVE) when she peforms in intimate solo mode on her ‘Friday Song – Radio Mix’ Sunday Arvie Single Launch Tour’ July to October 2009!
“…a songwriter destined to make a big impact on the Queensland, Australian and International Scenes” Matt Connors, CM2 Editor – THE COURIER MAIL
