I was born in San Diego in 1976, but we moved to Henderson, NV in 1984. When I was in Jr. High we moved to the west side of Las Vegas, and in 1993 we moved to Portland, OR. A year and a half later, I went to Malibu for college, where I got a degree in music from Pepperdine (I've been playing violin since I was 8). I liked Malibu so much I decided to stick around. I loved surfing, and hiking in the hills, the friends I knew there, the band I was in...
I've been involved in about 10 recording projects so far, one of which went multi-platinum. In 2000 and 2001 I toured a little with the Ric Blair Band on celtic fiddle. We played all over, and I even got to see Washington D.C.!In 2002 I moved to Chico and played in a band with a former band-mate and his brothers-in-law.
When I discovered punk rock as a teenager, I remember thinking how cool it would be if there were some sort of fusion that incorporated violin into it. I hadn't ever heard of such a thing, nor did I know anyone else who thought this was a good idea. I wish someone had turned me on to the Pogues! In 2001 I discovered Flogging Molly and found that they were the sound I had been dreaming of for so long: punk rock and celtic fiddle together! That's my favorite kind of music, and later on I discovered other bands along the same vein.
I love the UK. I've made 3 trips there: Scotland (2000), Scotland & Ireland (2001), England (2002). I wish I could go back to St. Andrews every summer, but that hasn't always been feasible (especially since the church split that affected the team I used to go with). I have a vision to encourage, build up, and facilitate the young musicians and worship leaders I know over there. One thing that's very unique about Scotland is that you can pull out your fiddle and start playing a jig on the street corner, and locals just come out of the woodwork and start dancing in the street!
Despite the music degree, I've never made enough money in music to do that exclusively; my career path ended up being in the field of web development and programming. In December 2005 I moved back to Vegas for a year because I got a job at an internet company there. It was good for a short time, but not ideal as a long-term situation. But now I'm back in Chico with a much better job! Go
Auctiva!
Most importantly, Chico is where I met my wife and we started our family! Our firstborn daughter, Ava Marie, was born on January 12, 2009, our first anniversary!
