All about fidola:
We are a duo from England and Sweden. Actually, Marit is from Norway, but is Swedish all the same. We met while studying traditional music at Bollnäs Folkhögskola in Bollnäs, Sweden. We started playing together on the first day of our course because of a mutual interest in various traditions from across Europe and we never stopped!
We are interested in combining different cultures' music in our repertoire, while keeping and appreciating their unique differences, both of us sharing the same philosophy that music should be spontanious and fun for our audience as well as for ourselves. We enjoy surprising eachother during concerts, while keeping focus on truly playing together.
We are both influenced by the teachers that we have studied with over the years such as Ian Carr, Catriona Macdonald, Jonas Brandin, Olof Misgeld, Stewart Hardy, Mattias Perez, Ian Stephenson, etc.
Having formed in September 07, we have done a lot since then.
We have had a busy year including appearances at: Viljandi Folk Festival in Estonia, Beverley Folk Festival in Yorkshire, Calver Village Hall in Derbyshire, the Sage Gateshead, The Living Tradition Summer School in Scotland, concerts and arts festivals in Halden, Norway, Folkmusikens Hus Rättvik, Sweden to mention a few.
We are experienced in playing for dancing workshops, scandinavian dances and ceilidhs. We regularly give workshops which have all been very well received, teaching tunes/working in ensembles/instrument groups.
