MySpace a place for friends

The Linda McCartney Centre is calling all women and men affected by breast cancer to join them in a show of strength at the Field of Women event in 2008.

10,000 people from all corners of the country are needed to sign up to the cause (from today), and come together in Liverpool next year.

Those who attend the event will play their part in forming a giant ‘Pink Lady' silhouette, by standing shoulder-to-shoulder in pink ponchos, representing the number of women diagnosed each year.

With registrations now open for what promises to be a spectacular display of unity, the event aims to raise awareness of breast cancer, highlight the impact of the disease across the UK and demonstrate the network of support available.

Gary Millar, Chair of Field of Women said: "By the end of today over 100 women in the UK will be told they have breast cancer and 30 will lose their lives to this disease. Everyone who gets involved in this event will feel an enormous sense of satisfaction from supporting those affected. Events like this are extremely important in helping raise awareness of the magnitude of a disease that affects many. You don't have to have suffered from breast cancer to take part and I'm sure most of us know someone who has been touched by the disease in one way or another - a mother, a brother, daughter, sister, or a friend.”

Stella McCartney, who is Patron for the Field of Women event, said: “As a supporter of the work carried out by the Linda McCartney Centre, I am honoured to support this exciting event. The Field of Women will raise vital funds for pioneering research and innovative treatments. It will bring 10,000 women together to remove the feeling of being alone and dispel the myths that surround a cancer diagnosis.”
