Bio
....buy it.... .. .. ..When Jonathan Rich [the one man rock and roll show from Atlanta, GA] began writing for The Goodfight's sophomore release, the direction was unclear. Says Rich, "At the time my writing was stuck in this trivial space where the only theme was a dark one - grieving over addiction, poverty, social injustice, and the mess humanity is in." And so honest but aggressive songs like "those pills and that bottle are a trap" and "mirrors don't lie but people do" were born. In fact, 5 out of the 12 tracks on the new record, ..Good & Evil.., are over two years old. .. .. When asked about the unusually long period of time between initially writing the record and finally releasing it this spring, the answer is as intricate as the outcome. "Originally, I was just going to put out an EP with six songs on it," Rich explains, "but the project kept evolving and taking shape. I found myself continually deconstructing it and putting it back together again and again, month after month after month. In the middle of writing I had a kid, flipped a house, and started a clothing company. At some point during the process, the idea of a double EP that, when put together, formed an LP surfaced. And all of the sudden it was 2008." .. .. Sonically, Good and Evil tips its hat to Home Again [the Goodfight's debut album produced by Matt Goldman] with developed anthemic ear candy like "I Put You In A Box But I'm the One That's Boxed In" and "Honesty Is the Best Policy," but quickly separates itself with a collection of unplugged songs that close out the record, welcoming you into a listening room of candor and vulnerability. It is that vulnerability that would eventually become the direction for ..Good & Evil... "Life is like a tight wire being pulled from opposite ends," says Rich. "Hope on one side, despair on the other. Celebration pulling against mourning; life and death, good & evil, with humanity stuck in the middle. I thought it would be interesting to build a massive divide between the two EP's, while still telling a story that was central. We did everything we could to establish a contrast between the two sides, from the titles of each EP [the darker, rock oriented We Are Far to Easily Pleased and the introspective, acoustic-based Holiday], to the titles of the songs, to the instrumentation, artwork, and even the producers we chose to record each one. It went from being a 6 song EP to an art project that just so happens to have some songs attached to it." .. .. Truly, ....Good & Evil.... marks the beginning of something unique, as difficult as it is expansive. Not only has The Goodfight created an album of rigid honesty through crafty songwriting and charming melodies, but also hopes to offer the listener something more than just 12 songs and some artwork. Partnering with Athens, Ga-based indie Rebuilt Records, the Goodfight hopes to create a community of people who want to engage ..Good & Evil.. as a call to action. People, who like Jonathan Rich, are concerned about "the messes we've made" and seek to put effort to their words to make a difference in their own communities. Rich hopes the Goodfight will help lead this charge with the August 1st launch of The Goodfight10000. As part of The Goodfight10000, all revenue generated by physical and digital sales of ..Good & Evil.. will be given to Living Water International to help fund projects that build wells and provide poverty stricken communities in countries all over the world access to clean water. .. .. .. .. .. .."GOOD & EVIL" DOUBLE EP.. ....RELEASE DATE:..
