my Grandparents; My Granny (Mavis Mangrum) had a lot of spirit and grace. My PopPop (Lee Roy Mangrum) was full of rebellion, many loved stories and southern refinement. I think about them and miss them everyday. Plus I know my PopPop is right beside me; encouraging me to fight this preposterous law

-------------------------------------------------------------Thank you for looking at my page: your opinion is welcomed and appreciated. ..............................................................My name is Mary Moody and I'm a victim of the Texas Driver Responsibility Law. First off: please go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt5SU95y_oo, for my story and how I became involved................................................................. Presently, I refuse to pay the TX Department of Public Safety's Surcharge Department for a surcharge they waited FOUR YEARS to collect on. No one told me about the DRL and the fees I would have to pay in the future. Yes, that means my court judge, state appointed attorney for the prosecution, TX DPS Clerks and Supervisors - NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT THE TX DRL WHEN I SPECIFICALLY ASKED WHAT FUTURE FINES I MUST PAY. I'm working very hard to abolish the TX DRL. The state of Virginia repealed their DRL in March 2008, it's time for Texas to follow. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
What is the Texas Responsibility Program?
The Driver Responsibility Program was passed into law as part of House bill 3588, article 10 by Texas 78th State Legislature TRC 708. (The text of the law is located at http://www.capitol.state.tx.us, page 152 of the Adobe text version.)establishes a system which assigns points to moving violations classified as Class C misdemeanors and applies surcharges to offenders, based upon the type of offense and the time period in which the citation was received. For each conviction, DPS will assign points to a person’s driver record as follows:........................................................... If you receive a ticket for driving with out a valid Driver's License, Car Insurance, or cited for a DWI or DUI, you receive extra fees in addition to your court/ticket costs. If you gain 6 or more points on your Driving Record, then you are fined an additional surcharge fee. (the list of violations that gain you the points is over 5 pages long!)
All surcharges assessed for this program are in addition to all other reinstatement fees required (which total around $225 to get your Driver's License Re-Instated)for other administrative actions (an additional $75) and do not replace any administrative suspension, revocation, disqualification or cancellation action that results from these same convictions.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________WHO GETS THE MONEY?----------According to the TX DRL, 49.5% goes to the Trauma/Hospitals of Texas, 49.5% goes to the TX Mobility Fund....................................................
...........................................................
I WILL NOT STOP!!!! THE DRIVER RESPONSIBILITY LAW IS A VIOLATION OF OUR TEXAS CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS AND IS A GREEDY PROGRAM!
Who I'd like to meet: Those who would like to join the fight! Let's work together to erase those fees and get a refund for the money we have paid so far. Come on guys, you hate this law just as much as I do! Sign the petition at: http://www.petitiononline.com/TXDRP07/petition.html
If you don't agree with this, your opinion will not be posted! However, I do accept corrections and criticism. This is my opinion, hence my space. I understand the other side of this. If you do the crime, you should pay the fine. However, TX Legislation passed this greedy law with out our consent or knowledge. If we let them get away with this, then they will do it all the time!
Post your opinion/debate at Topix.com, Fight the TX Responsibility Program is a hot topic!
HEY HOPE EVERYTHING IS WELL WITH THE NEW BABY. I AM SURE YOU ARE BEING KEPT VERY BUSY. ANYWAY I WAS LOOKING AT THIS AMENDMENT OR WHATEVER IT IS AND FROM WHAT I COULD TELL BY THE WAY IT IS WRITTEN, IT WOULD ONLY AFFECT NEW SURCHARGES AND NOT PEOPLE WHO ALREADY OWE ON THEM. DO YOU KNOW IT THIS IS CORRECT. IF IT IS THAT IS REALLY WRONG.
Yeah this program got me pretty good, I paid well over 2000, I almost had it paid off last year then, they came up with new charges that I had to pay 250 x2 for points. out of no where i have not got a ticket in over 5 years. its amazing how much they squeeze us for money.
hey, it's not letting me message you...so you message me and give me your digits cuz i wanna talk more about this txdlrp...i'm a victim and my man too! ya look great by the way!
You've got my full support. I signed the petition a while ago too.
I got three tickets in one week for no insurance. My insurance lapsed right? I didn't get paid until the following Friday so I had a week of time between policies. I got pulled over THREE times in the same week randomly. I wasn't breaking any other law. They said they were doing routine stops.
I now owed 780 dollars each year for 3 years after I paid 2000 dollars in fines (which came out of my college money).
I paid for a while, then decided it wasn't their money to take, and stopped.
My license is suspended, and I will continue driving regardless.
