Best Original Soundtrack (1998, 2003) (Secret of Ermei, Seder!)
Benoir has been composing music for film since graduating in 1995 from the University of Miami music school. His work has received accolades from the Arlene's Groceries Festival, and the NYU First Run Film Festival (Los Angeles). FAR was featured in the Hurricane Newspaper (article to come), and NBC news on prime-time, due to the undeniable presence the shows had created near the campus. John Waters also recently gave props to Dub Affair, one of Benoir's many projects with guitarist Shoshke-Rayzl (myspace.com/dubaffair) His playing/compositions have been heard on the Mensher Bros. "He's My Dad", and "Seder!". He also recorded original film scores for Paul Petrissans - "The Secret of Ermei" (about Qi Gong Chinese Healing), and for Mayu Nakamura's film noir "Eclipse". His guitar appears on Robert Di Pietro's score for Joe Harris' early work "Rapscallions" and Benoir has improvised soundtracks to hundreds if not thousands of short films at the FAR events aroud the country. Benoir engineered the trumpet recording of Antonio Dangerfield for BET's Katrina documentary, and his recording of "Tangos" featuring Antonio appeared on MTV's "Siblings" show. About me: FILM MAKERS - INDY FILMS - SHORT FILMS - WE WANT YOU!!!!
In 1995 Charles Kramer (chakravision.com) and Benoir (musicnoir.com) co-created mixed media shows at the University of Miami with Sean Fleck - Architects of Tomorrow, later bringing the events to crowds in New York and Connecticut. Projecting/screening short films, cartoons, independent films, and combining free jazz and other elements like spoken word poetry, the two received reviews from NBC and love from a whole generation of film heads. Benoir directed groups of improvising musicians to score the films live without having viewed them before. The music spanned all sorts of genres including drone rock, reggae, funk, jazz standards, fusion jazz, blues, etc.
