Interests

  • General

I have a wide ranging interest in film, literature and music ranging from James Bond, The Beatles and Monty Python to Shakespeare, Mozart and the Simpsons.

    Goldfinger

I enjoy history, used book stores, going for walks, hiking and bike rides. I enjoy reading, love movies and have a huge collection of books and DVDs. I also collect vintage movie posters from the 60s to the present.

    Live and Let Die

Please check out my seller accounts with Amazon and eBay.

    SeventhSeal

I enjoy political talk that is respectful, sincere and thoughtful discourse even if it ends in disagreement.

    ........
  • Music

I love film music! Some of the greatest composers of the genre are John Barry, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Herrmann, James Horner, Maurice Jarre, Henry Mancini, Ennio Morricone, Lalo Schifrin, Max Steiner, Dimitri Tiomkin, Franz Waxman and John Williams.

I also like classical: Bach, Beetoven, Mozart, Ravel, Wagner and others; and pop: AC/DC, The Beatles, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Psychedelic Furs, The Rolling Stones, The Who and 80s music.

    ZZ Top Greatest Hits

    Rush

    ........
  • Movies

I enjoy movies from all genres and eras and have too many favorite titles to list. I have a particular interest in Classic Hollywood, the films of the 1960s; Cold War-espionage-thrillers; horror films made by Universal Studios in the 1930s, 40s and 50s and then re-invented by Hammer Films in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

    Universal Monsters Stamps

I think the best films of all time were made between 1953-1983 - filmmaking entered a period of malaise after that which continues to this day. The two magazines I subscribe to, Cinema Retro and Video Watchdog, cover this period well.

Some of my favorite actors are Brigitte Bardot, Humphrey Bogart, Charles Bronson, Charlie Chaplin, James Coburn, Sean Connery, Peter Cushing, Clint Eastwood, Judy Garland, Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, Charlton Heston, Bob Hope, Burt Lancaster, Christopher Lee, Steve McQueen, Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Peter O'Toole, Vincent Price, Peter Sellers, James Stewart and John Wayne.

    Diamonds are Forever

Check out my blog here on MySpace and on my old Geocities site, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of Film, for more of my views on movies: http://www.geocities.com/themoviegurufilm/main.html

I've been cable Free for one year and have not missed a thing! I cancelled my cable TV in January of 2008 - I do like AMC, TCM, The History Channel, Fox News and a few others, but I I'd like the cable companies to offer ala-cart bundling of cable so we can choose to pay for the channels we want!

Blurbs

About me:

I'm a generally happy and easy going guy with two great kids, Megan & Alex, and a grandson, Ben, who's 55 pound of trouble - actually he's a lot of fun and a great kid. Megan has her hands full with Ben and Alex recently enlisted in the Air National Guard. Ben loves going to the park, watching movies & cartoons, going to day care and loving up the cats. Our dog, Jax, likes to go for walks and chew on bones. The cats, Butch & Peep, follow us around the house when they're not eating, sleeping and watching for squirrels and birds. I'm currently on sabbatical, writing, reading, networking and seeking my next career. I'm also on Facebook so please add me there too.

Paul and Babe winter 2007

I like coffee shops, watching classic films, reading and listening to talk radio. I'm cable TV free as of January 2008 so I don't watch a lot of TV. I also enjoy used book stores, movies, road trips, museums, conversation, bike rides and spending time with family and friends. Did I mention that I like movies?

Ben-Hur

I also sell quality DVDs, books, movie posters and other collectables from my personal collection and that I find at used book stores. I have seller accounts with Amazon and eBay as Filmbuff4ever.

Frm Russia with Love

I'm a retired Master Sergeant and served nine years active duty with the USAF and 14 and a half years as a weekend warrior with the Minnesota Air National Guard; 11 of those years I was on active duty with the Minnesota National Guard Counterdrug Taskforce. Please check out my Military MySpace site for more information about my military career and experiences. I'm also on Facebook.

Lawrence of Arabia

I deployed to Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait, twice; the first time in support of Operation Southern Watch - keeping an eye on Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. I returned home the day before 9/11/2001. My second tour was from January to May 2002 in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Over the years I've spent time in Afghanistan, Alabama, Azores, California, Egypt, Hawaii, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Tennessee, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oman, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Washington D.C. and Washington.

Who I'd like to meet:

People with similar interests - especially those into classic film.

I believe in The Global War on Terror and worry more about Islamo-Terrorists and their Allies more than I do about Global Warming and what Hollywood thinks about America! I just don't get America-haters!

Dirty Harry

I despise time wasters. I fear distracted drivers, weavers, wedgers, gap-closers, tail-gaters and drivers who fail to watch for pedestrians in the cross-walk. I wonder about the common sense level of the knuckleheads who ride their bicycles in the winter on slippery roads and people who run on roads any time of the year. They may feel it's their right to do so, but they'll always be on the loosing end in an accident on the road with cars, trucks and distracted drivers.
