Film is a four piece alternative pop-rock band from Athens, Greece, with
female voice and experimental sound.
The members of the band, Eleni Tzavara (Voice), Kostas Borsis (Drums), Dimitris
Borsis (Bass, Guitar, Voice) and Manolis Zavitsanos (Guitar), came together to
form the band in 2001. With a wide range of influences and a love for
experimentation Film embarked on a sound adventure, defining its personal style
from the very first songs. The bands debut album >/:no luggage, was released on
June 2003 by Hitch Hyke Music in Greece, with distribution in Switzerland and
Germany.
>/:no luggage received praising reviews and it was acclaimed as one of the
best debut albums of the year 2003 by the Greek music press. The song Jokulhlaup
and This is a lovesong(?) were mostly played by radio and club DJs.
Live performances are where Films potential best reflected. With many
concerts in Athens and other major cities in Greece, they became quickly one of
the best live acts of the country. The opening acts for Placebo and The Flaming
Lips and the performances at Rockwave Festival (in 2004, with Placebo,
Starsailor and HIM) and at TerraVibe Festival (In 2005, with The Cure) have
widen much the bands enthusiastic fan base.
Three years after their debut album, Film signed with EMI Greece. They
present their new sound with the second album entitled Angel B, where they merge
influences from the dark wave scene of the 80s, pop, post punk and dance music,
preserving their own personal style. Angel B can be described as a concept
album, where the songs are a cut-up of cinematic scenes. Proudly melancholic,
Film set up bizarre sceneries with antiheroes, differences, life and happiness.
Angel B, already out since February 2006, receives praising reviews from the
music press, while it hits the Top50 of the Greek Albums charts. Film now, is
one of the top alternative bands in Greece.
The band is on tour in Greece since February 2006 and theyve already completed
the 4 legs of Angel B tour with more than 35 successful gigs on major cities and
festivals with a number of very important appearances in Athens in June 2006 at
Ejekt festival (8000 att.) where they played with New Order, Hooverphonic and
Radio 4 and also at European Music Day festival at the same month in an Athens
central square (4000 att.). In July 2006 Film performed their first gig abroad,
in London at Carling Academy Islington with Puressence where they had a very
warm reception from Londons audience. Back in Greece, the band gave another hot
performance opening for Iggy Pop and The Stooges in Athens (4500 att.).
September 2006 the band opened for Placebo for a third time, again at Placebo’s
request, at Terravibe for a record crowd of 8500! Same month the band set a new
record crowd also in Thessaloniki playing with Puressence in front of 1500 att.
October 2006 Film played again England (London - Birmingham) while November
found them in London and Wales playing with Puressence and doing club gigs.
Many more shows in European territories (UK, Germany, Holland, Spain and
Switzerland) resume at the end of January till February2007. Before that, in
January 12th, Film performed at EuroSonic festival, the first Greek act to
achieve this. The last leg of the Greek tour ended March 2006, with a total of
49 Greek shows in 13 months! As the band is at the writing sessions of the next
album will spend summer 2007 partly in the studio and partly in summer
Festivals, like Rock Otocek in Slovenia, July6, and a few Greek festivals. Late
August the band will be in Italy for the first time touring. “Angel B” is to be
released in Spain/Portugal on June 5th and soon in many more European
territories this summer.
