L’Associazione culturale Gli anni in tasca, il cinema e i ragazzi nasce ufficialmente a Bologna nel 1997 con l’intento di far conoscere e amare ad un pubblico giovane e in formazione il cinema di qualità. L’attività dell’associazione è sostenuta dalle Istituzioni locali, dalle autorità scolastiche ed è patrocinata dal Corso di Laurea in DAMS – Università di Bologna.
L’Associazione propone la visione, nelle sale cinematografiche, di opere significative appartenenti ad una cinematografia di carattere internazionale e per lo più estranee al circuito commerciale. A tal fine l’Associazione organizza da dodici anni una rassegna denominata Un film nello zaino che coinvolge le scuole materne, elementari, medie inferiori e superiori di Bologna e Provincia. Dal 1997 oltre 90000 ragazze e ragazzi hanno vissuto un’esperienza unica di spettatori privilegiati di opere altrimenti invisibili nel nostro Paese.
La rassegna si articola secondo un percorso che va da gennaio a maggio nel quale vengono presentati film di qualità provenienti da diversi Paesi europei ed extra europei.
I film sono presentati in lingua originale, con traduzione simultanea e, in collaborazione con le scuole, sono visionati in orario scolastico. Sono inoltre previste alcune repliche serali per permettere anche ad un pubblico più eterogeneo la fruizione di queste opere, molte delle quali sono presentate in prima visione nazionale. Tutti i film sono accompagnati da schede informative e didattiche, che vanno lette e utilizzate come strumenti di lavoro, con indicazioni e suggerimenti che possono tornare utili nelle successive attivita espressive.
Nel marzo 2008 ha ideato e organizzato la prima edizione del Festival internazionale Youngabout, Giovani e cinema con la proiezione di lungometraggi e cortometraggi inediti provenienti da diversi Paesi europei ed extra europei, dibattiti, tavole rotonde e un convegno e una retrospettiva dedicati alla cineasta inglese Mary Field. Dal 10 al 14 marzo 2009 si terrà, a Bologna, la seconda edizione di questo festival.
L’associazione è iscritta nell’elenco delle Libere Forme Associative del Comune e in quelle di Promozione Sociale della Provincia di Bologna, ed è membro ECFA (European Children’s Film Association)

The Cultural Association Gli anni in tasca: il cinema e i ragazzi (Years in your pocket: the cinema and youth) was founded in 1997 in Bologna, with the purpose of disseminating the understanding and appreciation of quality cinema production to young audiences. The association’s activities have the support of local authorities, school boards, the Municipal Film Archive and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. From the start, thousands of young students, teachers, and educators have actively participated in the initiatives promoted by Gli anni in tasca.
The association organises the screening, in a movie theatre, of relevant motion pictures from international cinema. The films are selected from the most important international cinema festivals with special attention paid to productions for children and young people. The films are screened in their original language with a simultaneous translation. Every year the association organises a Festival called Un Film Nello Zaino (A film in your backpack) which presents masterpieces often ignored by mainstream distribution.
In the days after the screening, the experts of the association go to the schools to speak with students and teachers, explore the film in order to make its meaning more apparent, and also to provide some useful tools for a better understanding of cinema language: watching a film cannot only be a pleasant moment, but also the first step towards a development involving rethinking, analysis, exchange of opinions …
The work revolves around the film and can be in several directions; however, it always requires certain tools, given that the cinematographic language can only be understood by discovering and understanding its codes of expression. Young audiences, now seemingly addicted to the frantic pace of video-games or poor quality TV programmes, acquire longer attention spans, discarding a passive stance, and finding reawakened curiosity, new stimuli: this is what moving images on screen can bring forth… this is the type of viewing which gains in strength far “beyond” the visible; in fact, when the eyes are able to see “beyond”, intelligible sight become increasingly sharper and more piercing. We must change the way we look at things by tapping into our potential which all of us have but very few of us use.
This is the reasoning behind our screening selection, based on authorship cinema: images and textures fostering further thinking and thoughts.
