THE SWELL SEASON: Solitary Refinement
With so much good music in the world today, one magazine just isn't enough to keep up. And with even more bad music out there, we decided it was time to expand our arsenal. Here you have our most sleekly designed handheld yet. If Filter is your mag of choice for the War Against Tastelessness (and it damn well should be), then this shiny little devil is for the streetsjust call it your back-pocket indie argument ender.
Here you'll find our added two-fold online bonus: not only can you download your own copy for free, you can click on every artist we write about and be instantly transported to their home on the web. So if your interests are peaked (and they damn well should be), put that itchy trigger finger to use and click away. Without further ado, we present to you the greatest quarter-sized music mag out there: Filter Good Music Guide.

about us
Filter is, quite simply, the nation's greatest independent music magazine. Period. We'd go for "world" (and trust us, we're on the way), but we don't like to gloat. It's unbecoming. And besides, Filter is nothing without the people who fuel it, and Filter knows this. But who are these people? Well, some of them are damn fine writers--a ragtag gang of bohemians, poets, alcoholic typists, failed musicians, and ADHD-stricken adults relegated to a life of tearing down musical mythologies. These are people who inhale sound and breathe out text. People who fall asleep face-first on the keyboard and wake up in the record store, waist-deep in a vinyl wreck. People who...well, people who like Good Music, straight up.
Which brings us to the next group of folks who give Filter its distinct personality: the Artists. Modest Mouse, Lou Reed, the White Stripes, PJ Harvey, the Shins, Radiohead, the Flaming Lips, Elliot Smith, Franz Ferdinand, the Mars Volta, Grandaddy, Dizzee Rascal, Belle and Sebastian, Cat Power, Spiritualized, the Rapture, BRMC, Broken Social Scene, the Strokes, Kevin Shields, Interpol, the Vines, TV on the Radio, QotSA, the Walkmen, REM...the list grows with each issue. But the REAL people who make Filter what it is (cue the Aftershool Special theme) are people like you (aww shucks). Without our friends and family, Filter'd be nobody--a bum with no name, and no bling on his robust chest. So you wanna know about Filter? Come here often, share a few laughs, tell us about yourself, pick up the magazine. And remember: Good Music Will Prevail.
Thanks for being online now. I look forward to your Coachella 2010 preparty, like I do every year. The new issue is great, I loved the Julian Casablancas article.

We have wandered your way to say thanks for making us the Filter Undiscovered Band Of The Month. You have rendered us quite grateful. We really appreciate the feature, and just thought we should say so. Cheers, Filter!
"slowly FILTERed from the brain to explain, minds elevated by telepathic means, lurking behind these yammerings, pigmies hands diseased on a muddy canvas of pragmatic inference, a sudden ilusive glimpse, into something forseen, do you know what i mean?"
lyrics from my new song Planet Paradise! hope you feel the urge to lend an ear or two!
