The Filth is one of the longest running and most respected rock shows in Sydney. It has become an institution in itself. For almost 5 years now we have been booking, promoting, touring and working with some of the best bands in Australia and abroad. The support has been sick, the crowds have been loose and we are still here........fuck knows how!
IT ALL STARTED IN KINGS CROSS ALL THOSE YEARS AGO: 2004 WE THINK??: Was when The Valentinos (before name change) were just starting to turn heads. They were working with Kim (The Presets) on their debut EP so he jumped on and Dj'd the night along with Teenagers in Tokyo (who were yet to be a band at that stage). The Cops....well they took a while to get on board. Part it was that we were fairly green behind the ears with negotiating fees, but after much heckling, Andy Kent (You Am I), who was managing them at the time, gave in to our constant harassment. "The Cops get Filthy in The X" was our Tag line to him. He eventually succumbed!
MOVED TO LADYLUX AROUND THE CORNER A YEAR LATER:
Had heard a lot about this band called Children Collide from Melbourne. Dan Neeson was managing them at the time. We became mates and decided to bring them up from Melbourne and use them for the first 2 opening weeks. Worked a treat and now look at them. Deserve it all those cats! Along with Lost Valentinos, Children Collide remain one of the best and most loyal Filth bands that continued to return over and over again. Regular John supported and were just as good then as they were now....Raw as fuck!
WE THEN MOVED TO THE BEACHROAD HOTEL BONDI AND STILL HERE OVER 3 YEARS LATER:
Started out as a monthly test run and then moved on to fortnightly. Not long, before you knew it, we were running a weekly rock show on the beach. So popular it became that it was moved to the hottest night in Bondi, and that was Wed night at the Beachroad Hotel, where it continues weekly.
This was when we decided to start My Filthy Riot. An all day indie fest that showcased what bands had legs in the live scene. 20 acts , 1 day and 12 hours. To date we have held 3 of them. Until recently we shelved the name and now we call it Filth Fest. It's about to launch Sat 10th Oct 2009 at the same venue, The Annandale Hotel. You can catch the myspace link below in our top friends.
THE FILTH LAUNCHES BAND ROOM @ KIT AND KABOODLE, SUGAR MILL HOTEL, KINGS CROSS:
We had our launch on Thurs 15th Oct with Sherlocks Daughter, Dimity Claire and the Bleeding Hearts and Motocade from NZ. What an amazing room. Fits 200+ punters. And from the feed back by industry that came along with many bands that attended......Sydney we have a new venue that just rocks!!! Killer sound, killer vibe and all round killer night. You have to see this room. It is perfect for EP launches, showcases and gigs in general. Very sexy, clean blah blah blah. Check it out for yourself.
