For those of you reading Carrie's Myspace page, first let me say "thank-you". Below are the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and murder of Carrie Culberson. For more in depth information regarding her case, we ask that you please visit her main website @ www.FindCarrieCulberson.Com
It is very important that all viewers are aware that Carrie Culberson has been declared legally deceased and we are searching for her body and car, rather than searching among the living. The photos that you see of Carrie are to remind us of the beautiful person who was so viciously taken away.
On Wednesday, August 28, 1996, 22 year old Carrie Culberson was dropped off at her residence after a night out with friends. She never made into her house. The following morning when her mother awoke and found that Carrie's bed had not been slept in and her car was not in the driveway, she began searching for Carrie. All subsequent searches that day with Carrie's family and friends led them back to Carrie's on and off again boyfriend's house - Vincent Doan. Vincent Doan changed his story three times stating that he first had not seen Carrie at all the night prior to stating that he'd seen her briefly, but went back inside his residence because Carrie was annoying him. In the months leading up to Carrie's disappearance, she had been violently attacked by Vincent Doan and had a pending assault charge where Vincent Doan had thrown a space heater and hit Carrie in the back of the head. This attack caused Carrie to need five staples to close the cut on the back of her head. Shortly after Carrie vanished without a trace, Vincent Doan because uncooperative with police and hired an attorney.
After a cadaver sniffing dog alerted that human remains were located in a pond on the property of Carrie's boyfriend, a search was mysteriously called off by the Blanchester Chief of Police. Leaving the pond unguarded overnight, something was removed from the pond's location on Sept 1st 1996. As the water drained from the pond the following day, foot prints coming in and out of the pond were clearly visible.
Carrie's boyfriend was later charged with Carrie's kidnapping but those charges were later upgraded to murder. He would go on trial for Carrie's murder without Carrie's body ever being located. Other charges would follow, Vincent DOan's half brother Tracey Baker was charged with tampering with evidence and sentenced to eight years in prison. He reportly joked about assisting Vincent in dismembering Carrie's body and hauling away her car. Vincent Doan's father was charged as well as the Chief of Police. Vincent Doan's father was aquitted at his trial due to lack of evidence. The Chief of Police was allowed to plead no content and retire with full benefits.
Unable to accept the mishandling of their daughter's case, the Culberson family sued the Village of Blanchester in 2001. They were awarded 3.5 million dollars by the jury. In their settlement awarded, the village now makes all police officers take domestic violence sensitivity training. A statue and plaque of Carrie Culberson's face hang in the Blanchester Police Dept. as a reminder they will not stop searching for her body until it is recovered.
While some people believe that a conviction was plenty, we still need to find Carrie's body and bring it home. If you have any information please call the Brown County Police Dept. who is now handling Carrie's case @ Brown County Sheriff @ (937) 378-4555.
