[DJ TR!P - SID Vicious]
SID Vicious: An E.P. of music composed using a Commodore Amiga, Commodore 64, Nintendo Game Boy & PC.
DJ TR!P used a combination of all the machines to produce this release, switching between software & hardware to generate the sounds & sequencers. The title word play of ‘SID Vicious’ refers to the D.I.Y ethos of punk & the use of the Commodore 64 ‘SID’ sound chip.
“Less is more. Limitations force you to focus on the essence of the energy or idea that you want to get across, you can not rely on equipment alone to do that. I like the grimy, gritty, lo-fi sound and edge that obsolete sound chips give.” DJ TR!P
SID Vicious is heavily influenced by 8-bit chip tunes, video game soundtracks, demo scene music & 90’s rave music.
DJ TR!P – SID Vicious - CD Review
“Local DJ & producer, DJ TR!P, may be famed for his eclectic sets around town that take an almost kitchen sink approach to the art of record selection, but on SID Vicious TR!P records a very focused selection of tracks busted out on his trusty old game consoles. Coming on an International Deejay Gigolo vibe mixed with Green Velvet-like ‘90’s techno, this is an incredibly strong six-track EP. Broken Speaker is the highlight, with a banging industrial beat & is sure to cause mayhem on the floor. The title track is also killer, as the old electro vibe has a retroness that unlike most electro you want to revisit – just wait for the old school rave drum breaks: awesome. Hunt this down by visiting TR!P’s Myspace, http://www.myspace.com/finddjtrip, as it will be a trip where the destination is worth the journey. 8/10”

"People will be dropping this guy's name before too long, because DJ TR!P is the next eccentric genius of electronic music."
[Liquid Space Media]
DJ TR!P is an award winning producer, composer & performer of electronic music based in Adelaide, Australia. Over the past 10 years he has built an impressive repertoire of live compositions both for his club sets as well as for a variety of high profile contemporary theatre & dance productions.
“DJ TR!P is an exceptional creator of music who has a particularly diverse & unique body of work as an Australian musician. He has a strong & distinct solo career as a creator of electronic music through his inventive & creative uses of lo-fi technologies. He has an impressive reputation both locally, nationally & internationally.”
Sam Haren [The Border Project]
DJ TR!P’s melancholy yet beautiful, gritty & grimy signature palette are due to his unique use of obsolete 8-bit computers & video game consoles & his extensive treatment of audio from numerous session musicians. His genre & style shifts effortlessly with each project & collaboration. His music has been released on CD, Vinyl & Mini CD independently & on various independent labels in Australia & over seas.
”Music flows out over the audience in thick, meaty, 8-bit waves. It's sad and heavy in parts; the opening of a murder mystery adventure. David Cage's Fahrenheit, it's electronic pulse fading with each loop; DJ TR!P easing the rhythm into a body bag, only to suddenly jab it back to life with a nightclub adrenaline shot to it's digital heart. He starts buzzing then, feeding off the beat as Prodigy-style riffs mix together with a Matrix sound scape. Spins, tweaks & flicks of the deck come deftly, with no hint of the pre-performance twitchiness. A master of electronica.”

"TR!P has almost created his own genre here; this music is both experimental and confrontational - are you ready".
DJ TR!P - Vinyl Perplexa [Onion Magazine] [Adelaide]
"People will be dropping this guy's name before too long, because DJ TR!P is the next eccentric genius of electronic music".
DJ TR!P - Recyclise Reinterpreted [Liquid Space Media] [Adelaide]
"What TR!P has come up with here I personally see as a manifest stepping-stone in post-modern electronica history".
DJ TR!P - Recyclise [Rip It Up Magazine] [Adelaide]
"TR!P has created a mutant tech-electro pastiche, equally melodic and psychotic, of world class...Recyclise will make you think and react. TR!P is to be praised".
DJ TR!P - Recyclise [Onion Magazine] [Adelaide]
"This is an album reminiscent of the likes of Trent Reznor & Aphex Twin, and should receive much attention from all lovers of electronica".
DJ TR!P - Recyclise [Hype Magazine] [Perth]
"Other Journo's comparisons of TR!P to Trent Reznor & particularly Aphex Twin are spot on, an esteemed list to which I add Lavelle & Shadow's U.N.K.L.E project...Yet another example of fine electronic output from this towns underground scene".
DJ TR!P - Recyclise Reinterpreted [Onion Magazine] [Adelaide]
“Inside, the ghosts of DJ Shadow, David Lynch and the souls of lost computer consoles…This is a captivating, if not mesmerising album that is one of the most impressive local albums of the past few months”.[4/5]
The New Pollutants - Hygene Atoms – Album of the Week 09/02 [3DWorld] [Sydney]
“The music on this album is dark, almost industrial and soundscapish at times, yet TR!P maintains a soulful, head-nodding groove throughout. His turntablism is excellent – enough to get you bouncing more than once. This one is a real grower”.
The New Pollutants - Hygene Atoms [Vice Magazine] [Aus, UK, US, Can]
"The use of outmoded technology is usually accompanied by a level of dreary sentimentality, however Mr Speed and DJ TR!P bypass the pitfalls of the humourless masses and again emerge with some playful, truly interesting and arresting pieces. ‘50k Backtrack’ skitters along at a cracking pace and has a great hook provided by the interplay between Mr Speed’s lyrics and a slightly disturbed monophonic synth line. ‘Return of the One Hit Wonder’ is totally worth checking too, especially on clear vinyl”.
The New Pollutants – SidHop 7” Single [Cyclic Defrost Magazine] [Australia]
“Another feather in the cap for Australia’s electronic music scene! Hygene Atoms is a defining statement of what can be achieved with nothing more than a bedroom studio (check the ultra lo-tech spec list!). A chaotic but clever hip hop abstraction. While their production influence may be hard to define, Mr Speed offers an engaging, Tricky-like MC style to the mix, with clued up and humorous words to match. Add in some truly clever, bizarre and amusing samples with DJ TR!P and you have a potent cocktail, made even more dangerous by the strong underlying theming. A lot of thought and effort has gone into this, and yep, it shows! All in all a shit hot album that sits so comfortably next to DJ Shadow and Tricky.[9/10]

“Composer DJ TR!P’s lo-fi electronic sound score projects the crack, scratch and pop of tired vinyl, the result of too frequent playing by kids making their moves on each other and the world”.
DJ TR!P - Tanja Liedtke’s ‘Enter Twilight’ [TasDance] [Real Time 61]
“Timing is impeccable; voice and sound [newly composed for Twelfth Floor by DJ TR!P] just so; light folds back to reveal, or hide”.

“Metropolis was a once in a lifetime experience… Speed and Hopprich’s score was a gift.”

The New Pollutants Live Re-Score To Fritz Lang’s 1927 Silent Film ‘Metropolis’ At The Adelaide Film Festival 2005 [Empire Times] [Adelaide]
There is no doubt that this is a truly wonderful new score which deserves to be seen as widely as possible.

I was at the Cranka last Wednesday and I said I'd send you a link to my electronica stuff, so here it is :)
The track that I made from the Chrono Trigger music is called "El Gato". It's pretty rough but I think you'll still enjoy it.
Also, you told me about a couple of rare PS2 games I should check out. I remembered "We Love Katamari" but I forgot the name of the other one, what was it again?
