OBED “His words invoke thoughts, his arrangements are compelling, his voice calms your worries, and his spirit brings hope to a world of chaos.” Malachi Rivers-Actor/Hip Hop Spoken Word Artist
From sunny Haitian shores to mimicking his father’s vocals, to writing songs for churches and camp groups in the early nineties Obed was paving a way for a musical path. Obed, a Haitian native gives you the recipe for a musical entrée -A cup of soul, a spoonful of truth, an ounce of rage, a splash of vulnerability, and a hell of a lot of passion. “Through my journey I always discover like minded spirits and I know that I am meant to connect to these individuals through music. Music has been a blanket and pillow throughout my travels. Without it I would not be able to rest comfortably.”
With a fro’ and a passion for music, Obed traveled with his family to New York where his musical inspiration widened from exposure to the likes of Sting, Seal, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Djavan, and Richard Bona. With a timeless voice and an acoustic guitar he began to hit the New York scene and within no time Obed was being held as an act to watch. Now years later, the ‘fro has turned into locks and Obed vision has become more intriguing than ever. Obed, has lent his voice and arrangements to a multitude of trend setting artists like Jowee Omicil, Nedelka Prescod and Jennifer McDonald. His voice has also smiled on the artistic endeavors of "The Bridge" a song that he wrote with a friend "Ella Turenne" known as a "one-woman army of culture" which was released on a compilation album celebrating the 200th year of Haiti's independence.
An impressive start that helped build the sounds of many artists. Now it is time for the spotlight to glaze over the humble singer/songwriter. With talent that even major signed artists cannot claim, Obed is set to deliver the music & sound of the world’s new day in his debut album due in 2009, so keep your ears to the ground.
Obed, has given a substantial voice to a generation and culture that has not always be noted in truthfulness. So sit back listen, learn and love the artist known as Obed as he tells you that “It’s not just the Voodoo we have, open your eyes and see who we are.” Freedom comes from deep inside, to get to freedom just open your mind.”
