About FIND YOUR MUSE Open Mic

Hi, I'm Eric-Scott, and I'll be your host for the moment... thanks for stopping by! Every Monday night, come on down to The Evening Muse for a chance to play your music, make friends, meet people, influence places, and forget about things! Mondays got you down? We got the cure, and it might just be the blues! But I digress... here's the basic skinny on the evening:

- BECAUSE OF THE HIGH DEMAND FOR EARLY PERFORMANCE SLOTS AND IN AN EFFORT TO BE FAIR, STARTING SEPTEMBER 3rd WE ARE CHANGING TO A 'LOTTERY' STYLE SIGN UP SHEET. BE THERE AT 7:45 PROMPTLY TO DRAW YOUR NUMBER FOR THE EVENING. As an additional note to this, anyone who is not present when their performance slot is called is automatically moved to the end of the list for the evening.

- We encourage ORIGINAL songs, however if you want to play a cover it's... (sigh)... it's ok. But we hope you'll use this evening to try out your own songs, or write your own songs if you haven't already. Need a primer on songwriting and open mics? Check out The Tenacious D episode 'The Search for Inspirado'. Unless you're under 18. In which case we don't condone you watching that DVD (cough).

- Each performer gets 2 songs (a maximum of 10 minutes) on the stage.

Please note the new policies! At 9 minutes, even if you're still on your first song, the lights will flash warning you of time. At 10 minutes the slider on the sound board will be dropped and your performance slot is over. Think of it as good preparation for life... let's say you one day have the chance to open for a major national act, going over your time limit is a good way to never get such an opportunity again! Learn to control your stage time... and don't get upset if you don't make it in the prescribed amount the first time, just fix it!

- A 'performer' does not have to be a single person... you got a group of folk? Bring em! But remember, for the foreseeable future we will not have a drum kit available to open mic performers, and we won't be able to allow huge amps or complex electric rigs in order to keep changeover times minimal. Have a question about what you can bring? Email nc . folk @ gmail . com (without the spaces, of course).

- Dual feature performer Jake Troth and Emily McIntyre will grace our stage this week and will play a 45 minute songwriting swap set at 10:00. Acts that have not gone on by 10:00 will be slotted after their set.

- There is a $3 cover on the evening for everyone, performers and spectators. Let's be honest... you'd like it to be free and we'd like it to be free, so if you know anyone who would like to sponsor us please send them our way! :-)

- If there are youngins in the crowd, they may be moved up to accommodate for curfews and their tender age. We were all kids once, and yeah it kind of stinks, so work with us on this. We want to give them a chance to play as well. Yes, this still will be the case, even with the lottery.

- HAVE FUN!!!

- As always (for performers), an open mic is a great way to book a gig where it's hosted and the same is true for The Evening Muse. But make sure you follow all the booking procedures listed on their website at http://www.eveningmuse.com . If you're turning heads and you follow their directions, you're on the right path to having your own show!

- As always (for spectators), an open mic is a fun night where developing musicians hone their chops in front of an audience, newbies come up and test their mettle on stage, and old pros try new things out so see how they'll go over. Come on out and see what's going on - I think you'll be surprised at the talent we've got in the shadows in and around Charlotte - and don't forget to drop in on The Evening Muse from time to time on other nights! Even if you don't know the act, you've got a good shot at catching some spectacular live music in a place where the artist is accessible, the sound is great, and the crowd makes you feel at home!
