THE RUBYS FIRST BIRTHDAY EXTRAVAGANZA - 3 MORE SLEEPS
One year ago, on a lonely Wednesday evening at a forgettable Collingwood pub, The Rubys played their first gig. Twelve months on, the three scrappy-looking lads have under their belts better songs, more gigs and are infecting Melbourne audiences with catchy, raw, stomp rock n roll pretty much weekly. So to mark the milestone of reaching the ripe old age of one, The Rubys are celebrating with a birthday party! With around 40 gigs down over the previous year and a wildly raucous live set, there has been a lot of jumping around and beer consumed so this Friday at the Old Bar will be no exception. Expect some wild blues-driven sets by The Volatiles and The Bellows to warm things up, and the boy’s favourite two-piece The Cheats bringing it all home. 8:30 start, $8, Party hats provided.
Hope to see you down there and we can all rock out!!
First gig was a bit of a mess at first, got sorted shortly into it tho'. As you would expect, esp when you are running vcls through your own on stage FX box.
The 18th gig is going ahead. Not sure if you guys would really be keen tho' - it is a support for us, which is a bit cheeky second gig in. Supposedly it will be our 'record launch', though am not even sure we have been 'round long enough to warrant doing that just yet. We are supposed to do 2 35-40 minute sets, so who ever is on before us does, at least, get to do an early short set and split at a reasonable time... Not sure of the times or nuthin' yet. We would probably get there early, tho, to run a quick soundcheck in light of the launch thing and the sound problems of the 1st gig.
So if you guys are still interested after all that, let me know and i will get you the details of time to get there, time to go on, length of set, whatever else you need.
Hope all is going well as goddam fuck for you guys. You certainly seem to be busy with the gig thing. See your name all over the shop!
