What I do.......
I am a flute/sax player/producer. I started playing aged five and have never looked back. My musical journey has been one of self discovery, covering many countries and styles. After going to university and then music college I started touring. My first gig was with Jhelisa Anderson. This took me to Japan for the first time. Since then I have travelled around the world studying in Africa, Brazil and Europe. I have been really lucky to have worked with some amazing musicians. In the world of Afro Cuban music, with Giovanni Hidalgo, Jimmy Bosch, Bobby Matos and Herman Oliviera. Also got to play with Jazz legends Sam Rivers, Phil Woods, Mulatu Astatke and Han Bennink.
Most of my inspiration comes from friends at home in London, though. To name a few: Leo Taylor, Byron Wallen, Eska, Bembe Segue, Kaidi Tatham, Dave Price, Matt Lord, Dego, Mark de Clive Lowe, the whole Fire collective, Jason Yarde, The Invisible, Mara Carlyle, Tom Skinner, Vadim, Max De Wardener, Mathew Herbert, Two Banks of Four and IG Culture.
I have released records on my label Mantella under the name "Dr Seus." I also put out a mini LP "Bansuri" and have also released an acoustic album called "Su-ling" as well as putting out records under my name with "Trip do Brasil", "Club Brasil" and also with "The Deal", as well as releasing a whole bunch of 12"s, under various guises. My new album "Butterflies" is out May 2008 on Accidental.
Lastly, but not leastly, FULL RESPECT TO THE SEEDPOD!! One of the great percussion instruments of our times.
