I've been a singer all my life and am a firm believer that a good tune is a good tune regardless of genre. I found over the years that I was listening to a wider and wider range of tunes as I expanded both my mind and vocal repetoire. Rock, blues, R&B, jazz, country, latin and whatever else piqued my interest. Now I find that jazz, soul and blues are what are pulling me towards them now. From the rich tones of Sarah Vaughn, the power of Shirely Bassey to the modern day old soul of Amy Winehouse and the joy of Duffy. Cole Porter, Gershwin, etc. amaze me with their songs holding power almost a century later. .. My first instrument was a bass. I'd heard "My Generation" and remembered thinking, "Who knew a bass guitar could do that?" Eventually I found myself in a Skynryd tribute band "Street Survivor", doing their rockin' gospel inspired back up vocals and the next step was to form a band "Cold Smoke" with their drummer, with me on lead vocals. This was when I started writing my own stuff. .. Next step was joining "Ripper", a blues based rock band that opened for the likes of Lee Aaron and April Wine. .. I moved up to Ottawa and played with an assortment of local bands such as "Your Alibi", "Mask" (a theater rock tribute band), Purple Moon (Primarily Deep Purple tunes) and last (but DEFINITELY not least) "A Fine Mess", doing a 50/50 mix of originals and rarely heard covers. Sadly, we're no longer together as we were moving into very different musical directions but the guys will always have my love. .... I'd love to get in touch with any Ottawa based jazz, blues and/or soul musicians. Let's talk about a project!.... ......<img src="http://files.freelayouts.com/images/88x31_2.gif" border="1" -
