Band MembersA Good Suit of Clothes- Mackenzie is now one of the most compelling of our contemporary Gaelic singers, and her partnership with Duguid continues to produce music of real stature, heard here in these powerful, moving traditional songs composed over the last few hundred years.Norman Chalmers, Scotland on Sunday July '09 "a pretty classy piece of work with a stunning vocal performance from Fiona and a dynamic production. Initial reaction is that this is one of the year's best to date, and we don't understand a word of Gaelic. So how good must this be? You MUST have a listen." All Celtic Music, July 09

REVIEW OF DUAN NOLLAIG SCOTALND ON SUNDAY NOV 11...
"Here's the answer to all that crass Christmas commercialism. This astonishingly eclectic double album by the Highland Council's Gaelic Song Fellow and former Mod medallist delves deeply into Gaeldom's religious song tradition. It also creates new ones all of its own.

Scotland on Sunday (11 November 2007)...
Fiona usually sings in the traditional style -i.e unaccompanied ,but also calls upon the talents of her daughter Katie, a recent graduate in Gaelic from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, in Glasgow.

All of Fionas albums, - Orain nan Rosach, 2006, Duan Nollaig 2007 and the forthcoming 'Good Suit of Clothes' are available in all the usual outlets and on download.

InfluencesFiona recently ran a successful course in Gaelic Song & Language in Andalucia, Spain. If you are interested in joining her in Spring 2010, please get in touch with her... info@fionamackenzie.org

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001

Where traditions are not so rare;
    Sea, country and works scent the air;
A multitude of monuments,
    Planted tubs and patterned pavements.

The longish pedestrian malls;
    The remnants of defensive walls;
Historic buildings are a gauge
    Of the respect for heritage.

Wheat, rape and pines in the fields;
    Estuaries guarded by shields;
Long sandy beaches and wide scenes;
    Romantic-ruin go-betweens.

Rivers in parts licked by trees,
    Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries,
And crossed by practical delights -
    Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.

Fine churches headed at Durham;
    Football kits ad infinitum;
Kept castles - one for study;
    Masonry behind masonry.

And, with moulding-works out that way,
It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
