In the 6th year of work on a novel set in contemporary Sydney revolving around family, friendship, death, tattoos, transfiguration, spirit of place, cultural whiteness, real estate, water crisis. Novel writing takes up most of my time but the books are difficult to talk about before they're finished. This novel is scheduled for publication by Scribe in early 2010.
My performance art is durational and endurance based. I use my body as site, subject and vehicle for a variety of concerns. There is a need to test myself both physically and psychologically; each work extends on the previous. I sometimes incorporate small objects into the performances which are given to the audience as relics. No matter how explicit the engagement with political concerns, the work comes from a deeply personal place of obsession, fear and constant inquiry.
Both my writing and performance are informed by mortality and place, the ecosystem's cycles, flux and current rapid pace of degradation. Social histories both colonial and indigenous are intrinsic.
Touring 2008-2009 'You Have the Body', a durational exploration of unlawful detention. The audience participates in a series of actions which culminate in a one-on-one encounter with the artist.
On my blog you will find artist statements, reviews and audience comments. Photos and a photo essay in-progress can be seen in my pics.
