Fireants is leading the trend of young upstart bands. Unlike most of their High School peers who tend to take to Alternative Rock, Fireants members find their inspiration in roots, folk, Americana and bluegrass music. Which isn’t to say they’re wed to rigid classic forms; one of the quintet describes the combo’s music as “roots rock/gypsy/throwback/bluegrass/eclectic electric.” And their peers and beyond are subscribing to their modern-classic style in droves.
The band members may be young in years (all are still in various Austin high schools ) but they are accruing experience and acclaim at an accelerated rate. Fireants frequently share the stage with many seasoned rockers
including Bob Schneider and Alejandro Escovedo and even backed them up during the Austin Music Awards 2009, making it the youngest band ever to play the event. And, notably, Stewart won a prestigious 2008 Daniel Pearl Memorial Violin at last year’s Mark O’Connor Strings Conference in San Diego.
The group released its debut self-titled EP this month. The four-song disc features an effervescent blend of jazz, bluegrass, country and even rap-style vocals (check out “Deuce Is Loose”).
“This is another group who, like their friends, The Belleville Outfit, play way beyond their years … I think they’ve got great things to come.” Houston Press
"Among myriad rising acts under age 18, the Fireants rank among the best. Close your eyes and listen to "Hinterland"--It's the right stuff. No kidding."
Margaret Moser (The Austin Chronicle)
I just wanted to let you all know we really enjoyed your show on Labor Day at Gruene Hall! It was awesome. We were the ones sitting right in front and my daughter was the one who picked flowers for you all. She also asked how the fiddle works and you were so nice to show her. Thank you. Hope you play in San Antonio one day soon. We plan to come see you all in Fredericksburg.
i saw ya'll in austin at the bad ass ice cream festival awhile back! just wanted to let ya'll know that i super want to go to the show on the 18th but idk if i can make it! try coming out to east texas sometime ok?!
Hey guys, I was in Gruene on Monday and I saw yall playing at Gruene Hall. Holy crap yall were great. I was so happy because yall are my age and that was really cool to see somone our age up there taking the stage at Gruene Hall and really showing off a new era of Texas country music. I loved the variety, yall had a bluesy-country-rock-americana flavor that was so cool as a combonation with the keyboard, electric bass, fiddle, and electric guitar. I loved it, it would be so badass to get together next time im in the area, I would love to meet yall and see another show :]
You had a great show today at the Hot Sauce Festival today! I am glad I finally got to hear you live. You have such a great fusion of styles and are so talented. It was great to play on the same show as you.
I am looking forward to hearing you at the Austin Hot Saunce Festival. I have enjoyed listening to your music. As a member of The Tiny Tin Hearts we are excited to also be playing at the festival. I think it will be a great afternoon of music, fun and food. See you at festival!
