Bio
Firebell formed in 2009 with guitarist Park Evans, bassist Graydon Peterson, drummer Jay Epstein playing original jazz compositions and reconfigured arrangements of other material with an emphasis on unified improvisation. Park Evans is a Minneapolis based guitarist, composer, and teacher. Originally from Ithaca, New York he moved to Minnesota to study classical guitar and composition. He currently performs in multiple bands ranging stylistically from jazz to rock to world music including: Charlie Devanna, These Modern Socks, Enormous Quartet, Battle Cat, Katie Gearty Band, Sophia Shorai Quartet, Quad Rhino, Fonster, The Park Evans Quartet, The Tampered Seals, TickleFight, Inspirado, & The New Primitives. He has released 2 CDs of his original music (Impossible Party (2003), and Surviving Desire (2006)) and has worked as a studio musician on numerous recordings. He has taught guitar lessons for the past 15 years and teaches out of studios in Minneapolis, Forest Lake, and Fridley. Graydon Peterson completed his bachelor's degree in music composition at the U of WI-Eau Claire where he studied classical bass with James Clute, a former bassist with the MN Orchestra. While Graydon was a member of the Down Beat award-winning UWEC Jazz Ensemble I, he performed with such guest jazz artists as Lewis Nash, Ingrid Jensen, Jason Marsalis, Chris Botti, and Christian McBride. Now a resident of Minneapolis, Graydon is one of the area's top-call bassists, performing nightly with a variety of vocalists and small ensembles including Frankhouse, Snowblind, Christine Rosholt, Adam Meckler Quintet, & Nancy Harms. A consummate accompanist, he has become a fixture at the annual Twin Cities Hot Summer Jazz Festival. Jazz drummer, Jay Epstein, has an extensive career as a performing, recording, and touring artist. After college, he studied polyrhythmic concepts in Manhattan with Barry Altschul, the drummer in Chick Corea's Circle. He has lived in Hollywood, Oklahoma City, Atlanta, Miami, Minneapolis, and played in house bands for 5 years on several cruise ship lines. He's been on 7 European tours with pianists Bill Carrothers & Giacomo Aula. Some of the notable artists he has performed with include Barney Kessel, Roseanna Vitro, Manfredo Fest, Sheila Jordan, Terry Gibbs, JoAnne Brackeen, Ernie Watts, Wayne Johnson, Karrin Allyson, Kenny Werner, Howard Levy, Toots Thielemans, Avashai Cohen, and Sarah Vaughan. His CDs, 'Long Ago' & 'Easy Company', featuring bassist Anthony Cox and pianist Bill Carrothers, have garnered luminous reviews in the international press. Current bands include Red Planet, Klezmerica, Framework, BroncowVision, Impulso, Christine Rosholt, Nancy Harms. Visit Jay: http://jayepstein.weebly.com -
