| General | I am a poet/lyricist, acoustic guitarist, singer and mountain dulcimer player.I enjoy cooking and baking(from good old country cooking to gourmet), knitting (the more complicated the pattern the better) and other fabric arts. Fresh air, biking, hiking, and camping keep this country lady active, happy and at one with the earth. | | Music | Classical to rock. Folk/blues/acoustic genre (Kate Wolf, Bonnie Raitt, John Gorka, Bill Staines, Mustards Retreat, Eric Bibb, Norah Jones, Eva Cassidy, and sooo many more!) I have many friends who are also worthy of a listen - Susan Weber & Monet's Orbit, Kerry Kean, Michael Grady, Lisa Held, Implied Logic, Keith Lamont Bachman, as well as Gabby Johnson from Memphis, TN (they rock!)and a favorite band that my daughter and I share - Skinny. | | Movies | "Fried Green Tomatoes", "Under the Tuscan Sun" and"The Notebook"(Oh to have that kind of love someday). I don't get a chance to watch a lot of movies, but give me the old musicals or love stories from the 30's and 40's for the simple glamor and style. Basically I'm a sappy love-story type! | | Television | Not much time for watching, but I sometimes catch "Gray's Anatomy" and "NCIS". Other than that, it's a vast idiot box wasteland! Don't EVEN get me started on reality shows ... | | Books | "Sex and the Seasoned Woman" by Gail Sheehy - Should be mandatory for all women over the age of 40! This is a great study on the positive aspects of being in "that stage of life" where we can explore and discover so many new and exciting endeavors. "In the Meantime" by Iyanla Vanzant changed my life as well.
| | Heroes | My heroes are people I've encountered that will never be famous. First and foremost, my cousin and best friend, Elizabeth who battled cancer for 7 years and died in 2003 at the age of 32. She went through tremendous suffering with such grace and a beautiful smile on her face. She taught me to nurture my inner passion of music and writing and live to enjoy each day. For too many years that part of me was buried as I tended to my family. I am also privileged to have reconnected with a favorite teacher and his wife. Bing dedicated his life to his students, and now he and his wife lead a ministry for inner city youth, take senior citizens on tours and organize marriage enrichment weekends. It's taught me the importance of giving of yourself for the pure sake of making the world better, even it's just for a few. |
