About me:
Welcome! My name is Djali and I am a dancer with Firelight: Middle Eastern Images. I am the webmistress of the troupe site and plan to be adding a lot more pictures and possibly even some videos as soon as I can. ^-^ Look out for them!
The information on the left side pertains to me only... I can't really remove it, but I want it to be clear that this is not a site about me, it is about our lovely dancing troupe.
Now, here's what you surely REALLY want to know:
We of Firelight: Middle Eastern Images are a Middle Eastern dance troupe headed by international star Shakira al Fanninah. Our members represent many different styles of what I(Djali) refer to as la danse Orientale, including Tunisian, Egyptian, Moroccan, and Turkish. While we tend to focus on folkloric dance, which refers to reproductions of the culture-specific dances that came from the people, we also enjoy performing in the cabaret, tribal, and gothic styles, and any kind of fusion that may strike our fancy. In addition to all of this, we hold ourselves to the highest professional and ethical standards in regards to the art of Middle Eastern dance. Our mission is not only to provide beautiful performances for our audiences, but also to educate and promote the image of Middle Eastern Dance to the people who may not yet realize how wonderful and beautiful of an art form it truly is.
Now for a bit about our teacher. Shakira is a truly amazing person who has dedicated her life to the advancement of Middle Eastern Dance. She is also one of only three people certified in Being In Movement ® Mindbody Training, a body-based, testable, and provable holistic approach to mindbody healing and improved movement and performance.
She has studied with Morocco , Mahmoud Reda, Ibrahim Farrah, Dalia Carella, Dahlena, Mona Sa'i d, Dina, Zeina, Shareen el Safy and many other notables. Shakira does not simply dance. She takes it much further, delivering a very powerful, emotional performance that can be surpassed by few.
Shakira's school not only includes dance and performance technique, but also vital lessons about the different cultures that have over thousands of years invented this dance form. For information on lessons, hiring us, (or anything else that interests you), please contact us!
