About me: The Fire Pyxies Performance Art Collective consists of a group of three women firedancers from Winnipeg. We perform all year long for a variety of events and festivals. We learned to spin fire while travelling abroad in ThailandIn dia and Mexico. The collective began around 2002 when we decided to start busking around the city and performing together. Our choreography and creativity continues to grow and evolve the more we learn and the more we try to come up with new ways of moving. We really enjoy playing for people and our audiences are always energizing and encouraging. Thanks to everyone who has helped us along the way, we couldn't have done it without you!

Who I'd like to meet: Fire dancing originates from the Maori tribe of New Zealand who's warriors performed these movements in order to improve their sense of balance and coordination. The fire dancing
that we do is somewhat different in that it incorporates dance movements, martial arts, gymnastics and a sense of rhythmn into this performative experience. Musical accompaniement allows us to move more freely and our variety of fire tools gives us the chance explore various ways of dancing with fire.
