First Coat hailed from Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood near the University of Chicago. They played together from 2000 to 2006 under various names (formerly Drexel). Their recordings include a live set from WHPK's Pure Hype radio show recorded in 2001, a self released debut album "great lakes disorder" in 2003, and finally "move like sparrows" released by Loud-Devices in 2005. They belonged to a close-knit collective of Hyde Park musicians and contributed songs to six Mr. Hyde Records compilations.
