About me: Hi! I'm a congregation of the United Church of Christ that was originally founded as First Congregational Church of Tampa in 1885! I'm an Open and Affirming church. (My congregation intentionally extends a welcome to people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.)
I'm committed to working for Peace with Justice. (I strive to make a difference in the lives of those who experience injustice, intolerance, and oppression. My members oppose violence and war.)
Also, my congregation upholds the sixteen principles of the Earth Charter.
I'm a liberal/progressive expression of Christianity, and I include folks from Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk, and Hernando Counties.
Who I'd like to meet: You!

O God, enlarge within us the sense of fellowship with all living things, our brothers the animals to whom thou gavest the earth as their home in common with us. We remember with shame that in the past we have exercised the high dominion of man with ruthless cruelty so that the voice of the earth, which should have gone up to thee in song, has been a groan of travail. May we realise that they live not for us alone but for themselves and thee, and that they love the sweetness of life.
SILENT BUT DEADLY. Did you know that farmed animals produce more greenhouse gas emissions (18%) than the world's entire transport system (13.5%)? Or that nitrous oxide from animal manure is around 300 times as damaging to the climate as carbon dioxide? Or that methane ( cow and sheep farts/burps to you and me) has 23 times the global warming impact of carbon dioxide? MAKES YOU THINK DOESN'T IT? The only genuine way to cut down these harmful emissions is to stop eating meat. To find out more visit www. vegsoc. org/environment , or order your free booklet on 0161 925 2000, green@vegsoc.org. It's not just a lot of hot air.
February 14th marks the US launch of Fair Trade Certified flowers. This V-Day is very special because for the first time Americans can buy Fair Trade Certified flowers and chocolate. Fall in love with Fair Trade and make the pledge to have a Fair Trade Valentine’s Day. Please pass this on to all your Fair Trade Valentines!
Thanks for the add. VEG4LENT Reviving the ancient Christian Tradition of abstaining from meat consumption during Lent, we respectfully invite all Christians to use VEG4LENT as a period of reflection and prayer for all those currently condemned to the slaughterhouse.
As a contemporary adaptation of an ancient tradition, we politely urge each participant to adopt a vegetarian diet for each and every day between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday.
Lent is a sacred and spiritual period for Christians the world over. Greater empathy with Christ, gained during the Lenten period, allows us to be more receptive to the needs of our neighbour. As Christ taught us our neighbour is s/he who suffers. Are there any who suffer more than those condemned to the slaughterhouse?
