ROCK BAND FROM NAGOYA!!
In 1997 I (Steve Pottinger) decided that during my time at Marlborough I needed to sharpen up my image... I went out and started a rock band! It was a complete failure! However, many things came out of those two years of hard playing that I can never forget. I remember my first guitar....a Horner Vintage for a 100 quid! It's funny that I bought a cheap guitar and a month later bought a Cry Baby that was about the same price as the Guitar!
During my time at uni in York I learn't that spinning the wheels of steel was the thing for me. During these 4 years I neglected my guitar until I arrived in Japan. I bought a guitar and put in some serious practice time. THEN....
At the end of 2003 I Started to play solo around Nagoya. A year later I hooked up with Yamauchi Kenji and we started playing with this this guy we new filling out on bass. Kenji was a student at a sound engineering school in the centre of Nagoya. We met in a bar by complete luck...we were both shit faced at the time also. Kenji was drumming for another band so we didn't put anything together then. Then Kenji retired from his other band and....
Fish Tank Tv was born just after the summer of 2004. The name was put in place by Steve and Kenji over a couple of (if I remember correctly) tumblers of Pernot. The reason why we decided to call it FISH TANK TV is a secret though!
The line up was myself and Kenji with a mix of fortune in the bass department. We had two bassists over theyear until July 2005 when we finally finally found three perminant members in the band. Steve, Kenji and Omi. We released an album called "Just having fun" in July 2005. It comprises of 10 original tracks. All songs and lyrics are written by Steve who plays the guitar and sings in the band. Kenji plays a storming drum line and Omi funks it up on the bass. We play hard rock. At the end of 2005 FISH TANK TV was picked to be in the top ten out of 76 bands in the Aichi ken Rock audition. This was a great way to spin into the next year.
Despite being based in Japan. FISH TANK TV plays Rock in English. Please check out the video here on MY SPACE to get an idea of our style.
2006 has been steady seeing FTV playing on most weekends around Nagoya, Toyohashi, Gifu and Tokyo. With new songs coming in all the time FTV is a great band to see live. The jumping, rocking and headbanging riffs just lift those rock lovers off the floor. Come and check them out. But be warned...IT IS ROCK...and we cannot be held responsible if you like artsy fartsy elevator music.
