It is with great sadness that we at five03 mourn the loss of our friend and The Public bassist, Ryan Plattsmier. Ryan was a friend to all who met him and an extremely talented musician who would go out of his way to never let you know it. He was quiet and self effacing off stage and took a compliment worse than anyone I know. On stage and on record however, his playing spoke for itself, at once beautifully melodic and grounded. In a band of big personalities with a sound always ready to spin out of control, Ryan held the center like a dog with a bone. The first time that I met him he was recovering from nearly cutting off a finger. An injury that would have grounded most bass players indefinitely seemed to be a mere annoyance to him. He was that guy... the one who literally played though the pain. We miss you Ryan. Rest in peace. Ryan passed on October 29. He was 31.
If you haven't heard already, our friends The Prids were in a serious accident while on tour in California on Sunday (details at theprids.com). The entire group came out alive but badly shaken and injured. They now have huge mounting hospital bills as well as the need for a new van and potentially new equipment.
A paypal account has been set up to allow anyone who can to send money to the band. If you can't help out monetarily, please repost whatever info you can into your myspace pages, blogs, etc...
five03 Records is going to be sending the latest Prids EP "Something Difficult" to everyone who donates $50 or more to the band.
Also, be on the lookout for an upcoming benefit compilation CD for The Prids!
