| General | I like to read a lot. That's fun. No one makes me talk to them when I read. I draw a lot, for the same reason. And run. By myself. Again, to avoid talking to people. I guess you could say I'm not very interested in talking to people, and very interesting in avoiding talking to people. | | Music | El Smashing Pumpkins, Sleater-Kinney, the Hold Steady, Bob Dylan, Wilco, Radiohead, NOFX, I kind of dig the whole mash-up thing like American Edit and the Gray Album and what-not. DJ Earworm and Party Ben do particularly fine work. | | Movies | Casablanca, the Maltese Falcon, the Lord of the Rings films, the Star Wars ones (not the new ones, as I disavow their very existence), Pi, Good Night and Good Luck, Dawn of the Dead, Nightmare Before Christmas, Field of Dreams. | | Television | The WB11 Morning News, Lost, the Gilmore Girls. That's really about it these days. | | Books | You really want to go down this road with me? I was a friggin' English major. Basically, everything but the Da Vinci Code. That was a ginormous pile of crap. OK, best of the best.. Brothers Karamazov, Look Homeward Angel, the Sun Also Rises, Great Gatsby, I'm recently big into Wilkie Collins, I love Agatha Christie, particularly Ten Little Indians, I greatly enjoyed Devil in the White City, Work and Other Sins by Charlie LeDuff was fantastic, I like some of Chabon's stuff - Wonderboys, Kavalier and Clay, I love Harry Potter, Don DeLillo is good, Zinn and Chomsky for poli-sci, Jose Saramago is probably my favorite living novelist - Blindess, All the Names, the Double are all outstanding. Oh, Dante is unbefrigginlievable. | | Heroes | Bill Watterson, Charles Schulz, Jim Henson, Howard Zinn, Thomas Woolfe (the one that wrote You Can't Go Home Again, not the one that wrote Bonfire of the Vanities), Papa Hemingway, Stephen Colbert. And, in the Bizarro Universe, George W. Bush, who, like the Da Vinci Code, is a ginormous pile of crap. |
