Cradled in the heart of the central Texas music scene, Five Dollar Friend brings alternative rock back to the main stage. Combining the moving lyrics and soft chords of founder Jacob Trevino with the blues inspired styling of bassist David Wechsler, the graceful melodies of backing vocalist and pianist Michelle Hutchinson, and the driving guitar licks courtesy of Adam Jermstad, Five Dollar Friend has made a name for itself in the live music scene of central Texas.
Moving along in their journey, Five Dollar Friend is proud to have finished production on their freshman LP entitled XOXORx (Kisses, Hugs, and Prescription Drugs). With selected tracks produced by Matt Novesky of Universal Record's Blue October, it was released in April of 2006. It is now available through iTunes, various online music stores, and at live shows. To quell audience demand for the LP, the band has previously released a series of Demos and EPs, most notably the five song Open Mic EP.
After a few changes in the line up, the band has finished work on a new album, which will be released February 28 2009.
Armed with poignant songs and an avid following, Five Dollar Friend brings honesty and simplicity back to the world of alternative music. With a repertoire of hook laden songs that maintain a sincerity that is hard to find in so much of today's music, the audiences of central Texas and beyond are already embracing this new taste of rock music they relate to.

On December 19th at Avant Garden in Houston, Texas, it was a pleasure to attend a live acoustic recording session featuring Five Dollar Friend.
During this awesome set Jeff Crowder (the lead singer of Deep Ella) was the opening act and provided a spirited, albeit brief, performance. Raking out tunes such as 'Summer Love' and 'Sleeping Pills', the set left the feeling that a music scene really does exist in Houston. Jeff's performance as a solo act was very moving and got the crowd ready for the main act of the night, Five Dollar Friend.
Five Dollar Friend is composed of the following band members:
Jacob Trevino - vocals, guitar David Wechsler - bass guitar, occasional backup vocals Adam - lead guitar, vocals Michelle- vocals, keyboard
The band opened up the set with heart pumping vocals and immediately proved that the night would be filled with a memorable performance. Along the way, they performed a spirited song called 'Pick Up' and another moving song entitled 'Dancehall'. Both songs definitely energized the crowd and left us waiting for more. Fortunately we were not disappointed as one of my favorites of the night, 'Bullets To Bleed', an emotional tribute to a friend in need, provided musical balance to the evenings selections. In a nutshell, the band had a terrific performance and I definitely expect to see more of this act in the near future. http://www.ghostlaborradio.com/Reviews.aspx
