Five in Orbit

Si par pour qualité et naturalité le disque de début de Five in Orbit a constitué une des grandes révélations du jazz européen du nouveau siècle, dans leur deuxième album, le quintette franco-catalan réussit encore à aller au-delà. Leur musique circule à grande vitesse dans l'autoroute du jazz avec majuscules, loin des étiquettes, restrictions thématiques forcées et substyles. Un grand disque qui est dévoré d’un bout à l’autre comme un bon film.

Freaks, l'album de Five in Orbit est ce que je nomme un disque/porte : le seuil d'un univers proche et brumeux, mélancolique et fort, tactile et éthéré. Les thèmes de ce CD se sont convertis en bande sonore habituelle de ma vie quotidienne.

Les Five in Orbit ont bu à la source du jazz. Ils ont été touchés par sa vitalité, son énergie et sa capacité de jouissance. Tous ont eu leur parcours, leurs expériences musicales et humaines : Ellington, Mingus, Kirk, Gillespie ou Jamal ont nourri chacun des ses membres, ont été leurs sources d’inspiration. Chacun ayant apporté sa personnalité, ils sont arrivés à donner une musique unique, collective, lumineuse et communicative. Les Five in Orbit sont un «vrai» groupe musical. Chaque thème est un chant à la vie : compositions originales aux mélodies entêtantes, arrangements débridés, ballades voluptueuses... C’est une offrande passionnée! La jouissance de ces cinq musiciens se produisant sur scène s’additionne au plaisir de partager avec le public cet état d’âme d’authentique euphorie. Conques, happeaux, gongs et autres instruments ponctuent cette fête, avec humour et piquant. Cela étant dit, il ne nous reste plus qu’à vous prévenir que les Five in Orbit peuvent vous causer des effets secondaires hautement salutaires.
