Originating out of Flint Michigan, Fixtion has played around the Great Lakes region for over ten years. The founding members, Keith Fleetwood, Kim French and Joel Fairman had played together in other bands performing mostly classic rock covers. Fleetwood and Fairman had played and written songs in the band Crüx Änsata, which combined hardcore punk with progressive rock. The band also included Brad Morley, Rose Jones, and drummer Phil Hines Gramatico. The group wrote the songs "Anarchy Is Coming", "E=MC²", and early versions of "Hard Hard" and "Insomnia".
Fleetwood then moved to drums to play in the hardcore punk band "Free Cheese", along with Brad Morley, Michael Thomas, and singer Blair Jones, the husband of Rose. The band toured for a year across the Midwest, playing along with the bands "The Crucif**ks" and "Faith No More".
Fleetwood and Morley continued to work in different musical entities, doing jazz, classic rock, country, rhythm & blues, latin and dance in the bands: "Avant Garden", "Blackhawk", "Montana", "Thrust", "In Flight", "Suave" and "Code Blue". Morley also continued in the hardcore punk vein, in the bands "Solidarnosc" and "Godspeed" with Blair Jones.
After recording at Silver Sun Studios beside the successful group "Ready For The World", the R&B band "In Flight" had two songs in heavy rotation on regional R&B radio stations, "Send A Brighter Day" and "Convince Me". The band started playing concerts to huge crowds, and received the full limousine and private airplane VIP treatment, and private party invitations with featured guests including REO Speedwagon. "In Flight" was at the table with Atlantic Records before the band self-destructed.
Fleetwood and French met in the band Code Blue. French went on to put together an all girl band called "The TomBoiz", and later added men to the mix, rejoining Fleetwood and bassist Mike Dimich. The band, now "TomBoiz and The Noiz", toured for over three years with Fairman as sound engineer. The band ended with the suicidal death of Dimich. Fleetwood and French then began a studio project that evolved into Fixtion. They worked with two long-time friends: Fairman, and singer-guitarist Kimberly Smith. Halfway into the project, Kimberly went into the hospital with a chronic illness, and within a week she passed away. Despite the setbacks the group continued, and toured in support of the cd release. Fixtion was an opportunity to get Fairman back on stage to show his musical wizardry on bass, electric guitar, and Chapman Stick. The cd gained airplay in the mid-west and Canada, and great reviews from the press.
Fleetwood studied classical guitar at the University of Michigan, and with guitar masters Steve Yankee, Carlos Montoya, and Mary Yancho. Fairman studied jazz guitar with Steve Yankee, although he didn’t know Fleetwood at the time. Canadian singer Kim French studied voice and opera at UofM and in Toronto.
