.. .. .. Denmark’s worst selling band release new album.

Ever heard of the band Fjell? No hey. But there are several good reasons for this: With regards to number of albums sold, they are bottom of the league. The latest album from 2008, “We are the world, we are the chicken” sold only three (3) copies! “So it can only get better with our new record,” laugh’s the lead singer Knut E. Haavik. The forty year old producer and previous member of Hotel Hunger lives in Bjert just outside Kolding, where he has set up Denmarks’ smallest sound studio in his garage.

Now this could be the end of story, not least because hanging onto band members who are so spread out in Kolding, Køge and Copenhagen is no easy matter. Make no mistake, the band has had reviews, that they rock. Among others’ four hearts from Politikens rock reviewer Erik Jensen suggests, that it is not totally crazy. So it is no surprise, that the band is now trying again to open the door to the music scene with their third album ‘No Bullshirt’. “It is simply the best record we have ever produced. And we have tried to give up, but we can’t.”

To spread the word about Danish music’s possibly best kept secret, the band has established their very own TV station, Fjell TV, on youtube where they give their own distinctive view on rock-documentary’s. And to the bands big surprise they have experienced an incredible interest on Facebook: “If only 0,6% of our fans on Facebook buy the album, we effectively double our sales” says philosopher Knut. The forerunner to “No Bullshirt”, the single ‘Shake, shake!’ has been played on 10 Danish radio stations and hit the top 10 list on the independent Danish hit list Chartbase.dk where it also reached a fourth place on Rock DK.

‘No Bullshirt’ was released on Gateway/Fjellskabet on 1st February.

The Danish/Norwegian band FJELL was founded in April 2002 by Knut E. Haavik who was born and raised north of the polar circle in the town of Narvik, Norway. He started out playing the drums in his father’s jazz band, but playing just wasn’t enough so he built his own studio and started producing local bands. In 1990, 21 years old, he moved to Denmark and joined Hotel Hunger. With them he composed, produced and played guitar on four albums. ‘Mars needs guitars’ sold 18.000 copies and was nominated to five Danish Grammies among others best rock album and best producer. Since then he has produced a variety of albums with danish artist such as Søs Fenger, TV2, Poul Krebs and Nina Forsberg – amongst others.

Drummer Flemming Olsen had played with Knut in the easy listening act: ‘Elvis Ellington and his Lazy Latin Lovers’ on their first and only album “Volume 1”! Now Knut had a load of new songs in the drawer and wanted to start a new band. Flemming suggested his longtime bandmates - bassplayer Jonas Gauguin and guitarist Rasmus Schrøder.

The band started recording in Copenhagen and in December 2002 they had their live debut at the venue ‘Paragraffen’ in Oslo. While in Norway they also recorded three songs for the EP that was released in 2003.

The first album ‘Skateboarder’ was released in Denmark, Norway and Sweden in June 2005 on the EMI/Noiz label. The debut was very positively received with 4/6 hearts in ‘Politiken’ and 4/6 stars in ‘Gaffa’. In the spring of 2006 the band played a Danish club tour, and after a half year break the recordings for their second album began.

And very soon they discovered a strange parameter for a succesful single: The more “Oh Yeah”s - the better the song. This turned out to be a dogmatic rule for the second album. Make your own count!
