Flaggots Palm Springs was organized in the summer of 2007 for the purpose of providing entertainment, music, color, and pageantry at special community events in Palm Springs, California throughout the year. The Flaggots utilize synchronized choreography with both the body and equipment (usually flags or rifles) creating unique visual effects to interpret music they are performing to. The group is based on similar organizations that have entertained crowds in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Toronto, St. Petersburg and Columbus, OH. These groups are perennial crowd favorites often performing to high energy dance music or classic disco hits. Many of the Flaggots performers have extensive performing and teaching backgrounds in competitive colorguard/winterguard, marching band and drum corps, and travel from all over the United States to showcase their talent and share the activity with a more "mainstream" crowd. Membership is open to all individuals that have a desire to perform, the willingness to attend rehearsals, and dedicate the time needed to perfect the Flaggots routines. Flaggots Palm Springs is funded mainly by the dues paid by performing members, as well as private contributions from sponsors and supporters.
Flaggots Palm Springs performs with the hopes of delivering a message of cultural diversity, equality, tolerance and understanding to its audience both in the Gay and Straight communities. As Flaggots Palm Springs continues to grow and receive performance requests from all over Southern California and beyond, we must look within our community to assist in making these performances happen. Our annual budget is spent each year on such items as equipment, rehearsal facility rental, uniforms, sound system rentals, generator rentals, sound studio fees, entry fees and transportation costs. Every member of Flaggots Palm Springs contributes a large amount from their own pockets, but we must rely on the generosity of our patrons to continue to make these performances a reality.
